What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

all this winch talk......I won't go into all of my opinions on the topic since I just piss people off when I do, but.....take a look at these if you haven't. Been very impressed with mine.

That's good. I think it'll be a good synthetic lined winch for the price I will probably go with the xrc 9.5k gen 2 or the x20 gen 2 10k

Def not the drain plug. Did some more looking today, and still not sure exactly, though I am still leaning towards the diff leaking based on what I see and what I know

1. I know that it has been opened within the last year, and was not properly sealed.

2. I see no substantial leak leading to the damp/oily area on the diff.

3. It appears to be coming from an area near a bolt.

4. It smells like gear oil to me, and feels like it too.

Ran the car for about a half hour, went for a few drives around the block and see no drops. Whatever it is is small.

I do however see some seepage around the valve cover, not sure how normal that is. Either way, planning to keep an eye on it and replace when needed.

 

Anyone know of some extended wheel studs for the first gen tacos
Just ordered the 1/4" wheel spacers off wheelers offroad and am looking for longer wheel studs

IMO I think your gut feeling is right.. It wasn't sealed properly and it has a small leak. It has a pretty decent seal without RTV which is why it's such a small leak.

 

I really can't decide what winch to get. Ha it's driving me nuts

 

The x20 gen 2 10k is hard to beat with wireless remote for under 600 bucks haha..but it comes in at nearly 100lbs! that's whats getting me right now

 

For me it's between smity built, comeup, or warn. Regardless I know I want a synthetic line so I don't kill myself. Kind of leaning towards smity built cause I've heard good things + the price is right.

I was looking at the comeups and couldn't find a 10k? Would the 9k be ok for our tacomas or should I go 12k? Maybe I just missed the 10k..

 

Ha that's pretty much where I'm at. Definitely want synthetic line too. The 9k would be fine I would think.

 

I want to go with the comeup but my budget wants the smitty lol. one other thing I liked about the comeups is I think I read that the synthetic line is 7/16 vs most others are 3/8.
