Oh I forgot to mention that URD makes an aftermarket add on option supercharger for our second gens since Toyota wants to be pole smokers and discontinue their bolt on. This would probably be a viable option as well. Actually, I'm going to check out their blower right now.

I hear the URD kit causes issues in the long run.

Tis a bummer to hear, I would like to have gotten the supercharger when I pay mine off too. Oh well, I'll still drive it like I stole it and have it longer than others lol.

URD makes more HP. Things go boom if things just ain't perfect. You wanna go fast? You pay. The Yota SC is pretty tame really, but you get what you can without boom. I got my SC on my 2014 6 months after I bought it, and when I bought it I got the 8Y warranty. I should be fine mehopes. If it blows up, I'll deal with it then, and have fun driving it till it breaks. We'll see how good they are on repairs if it happens..............to go boom.

The cost of the TRD wont go up much at all, not when you can bye the URD for a few hundred more. Better kit anyway so...I have talked to ALOT of people on TW that have the URD blower and they all love it and havent had problems

Thank you for all of the replies!

It confirms what I feared... the 4.0 has limited options, and even fewer that will pass inspection in my area. I'm going to look into the URD system and hope the price of a used TRD system stays within reason.

I can assure you that the URD system a.) Cannot hold a candle to the engineering of a trd supercharger, and more importantly B.) The urd system will not pass smog. I hate to break the bad news to you man

So, why aren't you jumping on getting one of the last available TRD superchargers while there still are some? What am I missing here? It's exactly what you want, and there are still some of them around.

Oh I'm aware. Read about the blown engines and such. There'd have to be some substantial proof the kinks were worked out. Then there's the smog clowns. I think my dream died the moment the press release went out.

If I had the means, I'd be all over it. If you know of a way to convince my wife we need to come up with five grand right now to make my truck 'go faster', I'm all ears!

It's better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission. When the credit card bill shows up, stand back a safe distance and throw chocolate at her. She will enjoy having the leverage over you and will pull it out of her holster at random intervals for at least 20 years, but you will have boost.

^ Heck yeah, what's 5 grand of credit card debit at 24.99% interest? I mean heck, we all need more debt in our lives.

Take a chance with the URD and get a good custom tuner. a bad install and tune is most likely the cause of failure, not the kit. A person needs to take into account it is just a shitty motor with limited capabilities in the first place. The TRD kit used a smaller eaton than what this motor needs and the tune sucks and the boost levels are minimal and you really need to be on the gas for it to kick in. This 4.0 sucks and barely meets current epa standards, if it even does(I suspect they are using credits for not meeting standards). I suspect they will soon have a new engine, most likely turbo or other forced induction. You can only use the same engine and keep adding smog crap to it for so long before it is even more inefficient that it was in the first place. There is no way the 4.0 will meet forthcoming emissions and efficiency standards coming in the future. There is a reason the germans design the motor around smog/efficiency standards and not just build a motor and add crap to it like American companies and Toyota do.
I might add, if you bought a Tacoma for power and overall daily driving, you certainly should've got something else. You buy it for modding and off roading, that's all it's good for. It's seriously underpowered, cheaply made, ride like crap without dumping a ton of money in to it, and is way overpriced, under engineered, and lacking in technology.

You are correct sir, and for you guys worried about smog, this only effects california, here in Phoenix we have emissions and URD passes here (stage 1 and 2, NOT stage 3)

How bad is your credit man? Money is interest free these days. If you have reasonable credit there are a million cards available with 0% APR on new purchases for 18 months. Pay it off before the interest kicks in. If you need to make another large purchase, apply for a new card with 0%. Same with balance transfers. Don't pay interest, pay off the principle.
