I just got told by my dealer that it needs to be replaced as its leaking. Shouldn't this last a lot longer than 40k?
I have that extended warranty for 100k miles or 8 years shouldn't this be cover or not? What are good places for replacing and installing the joint? Because I have a feeling the dealer is gonna charge a lot.

Dude avoid the stealership. 40K, isn't that many miles unless it's been abused. Also, from what my dealership told me when I "needed" to replace them was, "the ball joint is part of the LCA". They wanted to sell me a whole LCA with ball joint. Get a second opinion or look for a DIY on here for changing them in your driveway

Exactly what they just told me! Just got off the phone with them and my guy(actual friend) said they only sell the complete LCA and that they sell it in pairs to top it off meaning LCA and UCA. I told him what about the warranty and that he was going to try because it was lifted truck. I don't abuse it that much I still think 40k is not much for leaking joint.
How hard is it to change it don't really like working on stuff that involves suspensions just do to me very paranoid of mistakes going wrong.

I don't know about it being sold as a pair (top and bottom) but they are sold as a unit, I price checked them individually at my local dealer. What's the angle on the ball joints with your current lift? The lift being a problem is just a way to get out of doing it for free as part of the warranty. I've seen "modified tacos" being sold at dealers w/ POS spacer lifts, that doesn't void the warranty. Saying it's leaking could also mean, there's some grease seeping from the rubber boot, the ball joint might be just fine.

I see spindle drop and wheel spacers / wheels with little back spacing..... i could easily see LBJ's going at 40k with the shit ton more leverage on them.

looked like spindle drop. either way, your stance is quite a bit wider without longer LCA. that puts a good bit of extra load / wear on LBJ's
