so I'm redoing my spark plugs/wires/coils and I ordered a set of

    NGK iridium plugs
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000A8JLIY/ref=ya_aw_oh_pii

    An NGK Wire set
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000CJ8DC6/ref=ya_aw_oh_pii

    And these coils
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0030WM7BU/ref=ya_aw_oh_pii

The page description for the coils said fits these vehicles:

    1996-2000 Toyota 4Runner 3.4 V6
    2001-2002 Toyota 4Runner
    1995-1998 Toyota T100 3.4 V6
    1995-1997 Toyota Tacoma 3.4 V6
    1995-1999 Toyota Tacoma DLX 3.4 V6
    1995-1999 Toyota Tacoma SR5 3.4 V6 5VZFE
    1998-1999 Toyota Tacoma Limited 3.4 V6 5VZFE
    1998-1999 Toyota Tacoma Pre Runner 3.4 V6
    2000-2004 Toyota Tacoma 3.4 V6
    2001-2004 Toyota Tacoma S-Runner
    2004 Toyota Tacoma Pre Runner 3.4 V6
    2000-2004 Toyota Tundra 3.4 V6

And I saw 2000-2004 Tacoma 3.4l V6, which is what I have (2003), so I ordered them. They came in and the
Box says 96-02 Tacoma. Are these the right coils?

Also, opinions on the plugs I ordered? If I have to swap the coils and there is a better plug choice, I'll exchange both at the same time.

    It's a 2003 taco, 4x4, 3.4l v6, auto, TRD and SR5 package, 156,xxxx miles

    Thanks

iridium plugs = wasted money and worse performance then the stock dual electrode plugs. iridium plugs are designed for tight tolerance high performance sports car engines and those are the only engines where it will help you.

these are the correct plugs you need for the 3.4 v6 engine: http://www.ebay.com/itm/111145506633?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

coils look like cheap china crap and at $19 each I know they are just cheap junk no matter who makes em

plus you don't change coils unless yours quit working, they can last forever and there is nothing beter then oem stock coils.

these are the correct ignition coils for your 3.4 v6 engine: http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Toyota-90919-02212-Ignition-Coil/dp/B003XU3UYW

the ngk wires are a very good choice, the only smart buy you made there unfortunately.

Agreed, the coils are either firing or they are not. You could replace the coil boots if you want, but again, these dont stat to be an issue until they are really going out.

Thumbs up for NGK wires and plugs.

I would not call the Iridium plugs a waste of money. They are about 3x as much and are made to last 3-4x as long. Though unless you are achieving perfect combustion, you are going to eventually get some level of buildup on the plugs. I would rather buy the cheapo NGK plugs for $3 each and replace them every other oil change. A spark is a spark. Iridum make a better anode to conduct a spark, but a brand new copper or platinum plug will function the same.

Thanks guys. I have Amazon prime so it's all free returns anyway, so I can definitely send the coils back no cost. So I should just do the plugs and wires then and not mess with coils til it's clearly needed?

Also, with the iridium plugs, I just went with those cause they had awesome reviews and were the same price the dealer quoted me for plugs ($6.70 something a piece when I called last week) and they seemed to be rated to last a lot longer. They can always be returned too if I'd be better off going with the dealer ones? I wasn't planning on doing this task until mid-next week or next weekend anyway, so I have plenty of time to swap/return anything.

well plan ahead and preorder then is all you can do

for you and anyone else that needs it, this dealer has the lowest prices I found anywhere and shipping is always based on the item, not flat rates, so compare your Toyota oem parts prices here before buying elsewhere http://www.toyotaonlineparts.com/

Awesome, thanks. I'll check that out tonight. I'm in no particular rush so I can wait for parts to come in. I was just shocked someone gets them from their Toyota dealer for one price and mine is so different. I'd expect authorized dealers to have consistent prices no? I'll end up sending these plugs and coils back to Amazon and getting the Toyota dealer ones from them if I find enough cheaper or that eBay link from earlier.

Not to thread jack, but where can you find such boots for the coil packs. And how hard are they to take off the packs?

    look here http://www.ebay.com/itm/Direct-Ignition-Coil-Boot-Standard-SPP79E-fits-95-04-Toyota-Tacoma-3-4L-V6-/191590456627?fits=Make:Toyota|Model:Tacoma&hash=item2c9bae5d33&vxp=mtr

sometimes they hang on but if you use a small screwdriver to separate and lift and slide under one edge of the rubber and then spray wd40 in there to break the grip and then they slip off just like pulling off a glove

And when you pull the boots off use a little sand paper to clean the brass part if needed. Then a little dialectic grease.

You can get the right plugs at rock auto for cheap. When I bought my truck the old owner was tired of only getting 9mpg because he was using the urideum plugs. I smiled and changed them 6blocks from his house. I got 14 driving it back from Portland.

    Good luck

They will have the lowest prices. Unlike rockauto, free shipping on orders over $75. Just send and email asking for what part you need and ask for avaliable options.

One cannot install a spark plug wire set on an engine that uses coil-on-plugs.

The NGK Spark Plug Wire Set in this case, would have to plug into coils mounted on the side of the engine or a distributor cap.

To replace each coil-on-plug is usually expensive and as such one may want to be certain they need to be changed.

source of knowledge: I owned a 98 Tacoma with coils mounted aside the valve cover, near the upper radiator hose (I forget if that is the inlet or outlet). I bought a Spark Plug Wire Set which plugged into a pair of coils labeled as something along the lines of 1 & 3, 2 & 4.

The truck I have now does not have a distributor cap or coil packs; it uses coil-on-plug.

Why am I replying? Because OP (@Agent 21) mentions buying a wire set and a coil-on-plug module; these two parts do not go together.

Give us a simple picture of your engine bay, OP, and the community can tell you whether you have coil packs, distributor, or coil-on-plug.

I know this is an old thread, so maybe by now OP has learned what they needed in place of a wire set or a coil-on-plug.

Edit: I see that you have an 03 Tacoma. A simple search on rockauto returns results that indicate you've coil-on-plugs; this means the NGK Spark Wire Set is incompatible. If I am not mistaken (and if my memory serves me correctly) you dont need to buy a wire set because the plugs are part of an OEM harness.

Look in the truck's manual inside your glove compartment for information on the correct spark plug model.

Trust OEM sometimes; they put millions of dollars into R&D to produce their vehicles; no 5-star reviews can repudiate their research and designs (unless there is a recall, mind you).

Edit: I stand corrected. Refer to Post #17

Sorry. You don't know what your talking about. We 5vz (3.4L) guys have both coil on plug and spark plug wires. Our 3 coils are on one bank of cylinders, while our coils have a secondary that feed via 3 SPARK PLUG WIRES to our other bank of cylinders.
