Why did Toyota ditch the rear camera and temp gauge?

I have them on my 2013 but it seems like they ditched them for most of the 14/15 models? I don't get that, it seems like moving "backwards" to me. Any reason that you know of as to why they did that?

The rearview on my 2015 is in the console like my wife's Camry, I really would like a temp gauge. My wife's older Sequoia had a temp gauge and compass.

I have a 2014 and the camera is shown on the stereo, but I would love to have a temp gauge. There is a weather app in the stereo but it says the information is not available..

Even the cheapest third world produced vehicles now come with backup cameras, cargo lights, temp indicators, Bluetooth, decent head units and speakers, and etc as standard equipment. They can because it now costs manufacturers pennies to install those things and customers want it. Toyota doesnt want to be like any old third world manufacturer. They apparently want to be crappier.

The app takes a couple minutes to update after starting the truck, it is not immediately available. And even then it usually gives me the weather for the adjacent town, not my current location. The weather app is buried in the apps folder, but can be setup to display on the home screen so it is available with a single 'real' button click (vs navigating touch screen). This is a really cheap and poor workaround to providing a real temp gauge.

The positive vibes on this Toyota Tacoma forum from it's members about Toyota warms my heart everyday.

Seriously, why do people keep their fucking Tacoma if they hate it so much...

Going to OP's question, odds are Toyota will be sticking the temp gauge on the gauge cluster LCD display in the new 2016's and every other truck I've seen in the last few years moved the mirror display to the radio display, so those would be my guesses why it's not in the mirror.

Don't worry. By 2018 all new cars sold in the U.S. will be required to have a back up camera.

I generally like my truck, and will almost certainly buy another. But there are some things that are frustrating and others that are infuriating. The real questions are why fan boyz feel the need to cheerlead for a piece of inanimate mechanical equipment. And bristle when anyone says something negative. Find a fuking life.

I would give up the back up camera for an mpg gauge. My wife's Rav 4. As the mpg gauge and I think for me anyway it would be more useful . Just saying .

Oh, so the fact that I don't think the lack of a temp gauge makes my truck a third world unit makes me a fanboy?

I'm tired of the whole "fanboy" versus "hater" thing.

Go fuk urself. My life is fine, I don't need to label people.

Modern cars are all about bullshit fluff. Its a way to confuse the consumer and make them pay up for bullshit they never use. Hyundai's and Kia's are loaded to the gills with all the things that most higher end cars/trucks dont have. Its kinda like putting lipstick on a pig in my opinion.

For example: Friend bought a new Acadia. He goes check out the headsup display ( Talk about a bullshit add on that distracts the driver at the end of the day). Or a park assist, no thanks I learned how to parallel park at the age of 14. Oh but my truck also has a 360 parking view so I can see every corner, I mean come on now, is it that hard to park a frigin car. Lane departure, smart cruise control, barf.

At the end of the day, companies need to add these features to make their cars stand out against the pack. But its the lemming public that doesn't realize they are the suckers for paying up for shit that they dont need and at the end of the day they will rarely use. Little tidbit. For automobiles priced over 35K, the average car loan is approaching 7 years, yes 7 frigin years, fools)

Honestly i like mine in the mirror more. Its more natural driving wise to look up in your rearview when backing up. When they moved it i felt it was a bad asian driving maneuver. Like.... maybe i look here, i see mo
    Just an opinion.

You're absolutely correct. The mirror camera lets you have two sources of information at once, the picture from the camera as well as from the mirror itself.

I think most manufacturers moved it to the radio because people were complaining the screen was too small in the mirror. You know what they say about bigger right :p.

    I do for sure,
But if you can't see a pic that is pretty clear less than 2 feet or so from your face, far sighted or near you pry shouldnt be driving.

That's only because a huge percentage of American consumers are complete idiots. Their answer to the "can I afford it" question hinges exclusively on their ability to make the monthly payment. Suicidal.

Meh, I think it goes both ways too. Debt is fine on cars as long as the loan is easy to potentially liquidate within 2-3 years. With 7 year loans on a car you never have enough equity to put yourself in the black until the final year or two, especially on vehicles that depreciate faster than our Tacoma's. That leads to tons of issues should your source of income change or take a dive.

Wasn't this thread about mirrors or something...
