DIY LCA Bushing Replacement 2005+ Tacoma (4x4)

I am still waiting to hear a solution too. I won't be going moog after reading this thread though.

 

The solution is $. Either buy oem bushings, complete oem lcas, or join the energy suspension poly club.

 

I think my reasoning is this:
-Why would I buy more OEM bushings if I am replacing my stock OEM bushings at 40,000 miles? (Not trying to do this every 40K)
-Complete OEM LCAs (same reasoning as above)
-I have looked at the energy poly bushings but haven't read too many reviews of guys having them on here so would like to see more.

I have been wondering about the other OEM replacement LCAs (Complete with bushings & Lower ball joints) (there are many different brands) and if many guys have bought those. I also have thought about buying a set and even replacing the bushings that come with them with the energy poly bushings before I install them. Just been looking around to find more reviews of anyone actually using them and if they run into any other issues within a year or two down the road.

 

Sorry, but maybe I missed this - are your oem bushings actually worn out at 40k? I replaced mine because when I lifted and needed an alignment my hardware was rusted and seized into the bushings, necessitating cutting the lcas out and replacing everything. My impression was that this is what many of us are experiencing. Toyota seems to have an aversion to lubricating front end suspension parts and front wheel bearings. As far as the energy polys, yes I think they're new on the market and we'll have to wait and see what to expect from them.

 

yeah mine are worn, making the same pop/creak that most of these vids show when the LCA slides around.

 

I thought I read somewhere that the energy bushings were small like the moges. Can anyone confirm?

 

I wonder if this is a 12+ problem -- @V5ioV went to the poly Energy Suspension kit because his OEM's were badly worn before 10k miles. The ES kit has you re-use the shell of the previous bushings. If the problem is the bushings shell itself, then using the ES kit in that same bushing shell would not be a solution.

The Energy Suspension LCA bushings kit is a poly bushing that has you re-use the bushing shell out of your current control arm bushing.

Using a ES kit in a Moog bushing would not be a solution to our problem.

My idea is to use a new OEM bushing for my 2006 & install the poly Energy Suspension kit in them.

 

After a weekend at URE still no clunk from the stock bushing. Also note the SPC bolts have plastic sleeves with them (no rust) and the washers are holding up well.

Not sure why would burn out a brand new bushing, unless you can find old sleeves that haven't been mangled.

 

Dang, 40K sucks. Mine lasted 172k +/-.

 

I am going to try another brand that is supposedly a poly bushing. ordered and should have them in a few days.

 

I'm pricing out a used set for $300 both sides with alignments cams and bolts out of a wrecked truck. Parts are out of a 2013, my truck is 08.

I believe Sandman has the OEM measurements. These poly bushings are already in the shell

I deduce they will fit better than Moog(fail) based on measurements and looks to be smooth transition rather than a "sharp" transition from forward to rear edge.
Although that 0.007" is a little unnerving!
