What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Yea it's not to bad.

 

Guess it all just depends on what aftermarket ones you go with but I would buy after market vs paying triple the price for oem being that they are both plastic

 

Nope. And it might just be my imagination, but I think the truck feels better. Who knows.

 

So I'm in the middle of trying to get the steering wheel out.. I got pretty much everything out except I can't figure out how to get this bolt thing out.. (The shiny thing right under the tilt lever)

Has anyone done the steering weld mod on a 95.5-97? It's definitely different than the later models, there is no Allen bolts on mine at all.. None that I can see at least.

 

it actually isn't too bad. Don't forget about those spring looking thingy majigys, get those off with needle nose pliers

 

I haven't done the mod burn fe pulled the colum. Sadly was 3 years ago..I don't remember anything odd about it though.

 

Hmm well those seem like the only thing that could be it..

I'm trying to look for another way to pull it out of that wing plate thing but everything looks welded together and those are the only things keeping the shaft in place.



Maybe I'm doing it wrong?

 

There weren't springs on the top or Allen bolts I'm searching google but can't find much.. Hmm

 

Got me 4 hankook dynapro ATM RF10 6-ply for 590 dollars installed. Couldn't justify the cost of BFG, TOyo tires. Tire guy did warn me he wouldn't recommend them for towing for long period of time. They do have those in 8ply, but they were over 800 dollars for the set. If anyone want pics I will post them.

 

Well I'm about to give up.. All I could find were pictures of the same tilt setup, nothing about removing it though.

Got these painted. hopefullu have them on in a day or two.

 

Mine was the same way, nothing like the write-up. I gave up too and discovered my "clicky" noise was at the connection to the rack itself. Steering column seems fine.

 

Hmm guess I'll give up on the weld mod and do some feeling around while my girlfriend turns the steering wheel back and forth, I only get a clunk when turning the wheel without the truck moving.

 

How hard was this to do? I want mine to be brighter but I don't want to buy all new housings etc

 

You have to. The housings are sealed beams.

 

I just bought this truck from a guy and I'm not sure what all he did to it. It definitely doesn't have stock housings but the lights are very dim.

 

What does that mean... Lol sorry I'm new here.

 

Those look like ebay lights. Thats probably why they are probably kinda sucky output wise.

 

So what kind of bulbs can I stick in there to make them better? Is it worth it to buy nice hid lights or should I just get normal bulbs?
