    Good Afternoon!

I have owned Toyotas (mostly trucks and one 4Runner) for 30 years. The last 10 years I have been driving full-sized diesel trucks to tow 10K lb 5th wheels. They are all gone now and I am back in the market for a new (mid-sized) truck. Of course I am looking at Toyotas! But I need some help.

I have been reading a ton online and learned much about the Tacoma. Her is what I value in a truck -

    Ability to haul stuff
4 wheel ability (mostly roads - hiway, snow, forest service, etc) - NO hardcore wheelin
    Comfort

My dilema is do I wait for the 2016 or get a 2015 NOW? I really like the Gen2 truck. I am leaning towards the Sport Longbed but don't really like the hood scoop. Other than that it looks great. I have also considered the Limited but am concerned about the 18" wheels.

My local dealer has both in stock at a decent price.

    Any suggestions?

    TIA!

    Dan

I think you should wait x2 it seems your not in a rush so wait it out and see if your interested in the new models.

If you like the 2nd gen.than go for it!The hood scoop is part of the sport package so you'd have to live with it.I like it on my 12TRD sport although there's no function to it.The 18"wheels on the limited is part of that package. You could always change the wheels. If your not in a rush than take your time and wait it out for the new 3rd gen.2016.I personaly don't care for the new design exterior or interior. It's all in what you want!Your the one who's going to be driving it!Good luck Dan!

If you like comfort, there will be more gadgets and automation in the 2016. For me it's not love at first sight for the exterior look of the 2016, but I'm sure it will have some nice advancements. Good luck.

I would scoop up a 2015 while you still have some choices left.

This is a definite concern in the next month or so. Right now there still seems to be a good availability of the 2015 models. My guess is that they are going to start disappearing the closer we get to Fall. I have never been a fan of getting the first year of a new model. I mistakenly did that with the 2008 Chevy Duramax and paid the price. I realize the Taco is NOT a Chevy so I am not that concerned, however in theory, after 10 years, the 2015 should be perfected as much as this Gen will get, right?

Yes, but that's not to say the 2nd Gen hasn't had it's fair share of issues for practically the entire run. Some 2nd Gens have driveline vibes that you just can't get rid of. Make sure you test drive what you buy really well and watch for driveline vibes between 25-35 mph and then around 65-75 mph. So far I have had two 2nd Gens and experienced no driveline vibes in either. Knock on wood.

I still personally like the aesthetics of the 2nd gen over the 2016 and am so happy I got my 2014 Baja and didn't wait for the 2016.
