what is a 2wd 89 toyota ext cab v6 3.0L engine, 5 speed manual tranny, 5 lug steel wheels truck and usable tires with 260k miles worth? its white and only a few minor dings here and there, nothing I would even describe as a dent. is manual windows so no power and the door panels windows and interior trim is all still there in good shape. the seats are there but the cushions are all torn up and the dash pad may have a few cracks but the rest of the dash and instruments are undamaged and there, it just looks like a dog got in it and tore up the seats and carpet.

brother in law was about to sell it for scrap metal and im trying to convince him not to but he wants to know what fair value on it would be.

it was running and driving but it had a stupid musical alarm system that wouldn't stop going off so he cut the power wire to the alarm and now it wont start so im sure the alarm has disabled the ignition and it would need to be removed to get it running again.

it has a title to go with it but there is no interior because of a long story but lets just say its a bare shell inside with no seats or carpet but dash is still there.

can someone give me a rough idea what its worth for just a quick get it out of my yard sale price and then a true value of what its worth selling price.

and just in case anyone ids interested in it, its located in amite, la.

im not offended, just looking for the truth so I can give him good advice on what to ask for it and then whats the least he should take for it.

I was kinda thinking with those miles and that engine, that it was going to be bought as a parts truck anyway but it could be put on the road without much work. I just know for me, I wouldn't want anything as a DD with already 260k miles on it.

    No interior

I'd say you'd be lucky to get $500. Search craigslist and see what something similar would go for in your area. I found an 87 2wd pickup with a running 22r for $1000, so I don't think someone would pay $1000 for the truck with the above qualifications.

umm, as stated above it runs and drives, it just needs an interior and have the alarm system removed so it can start and be drivable.

he cut the wire because the alarm kept going off all night long and since that wire was cut it no longer starts. he just has no interest in the truck so he never uninstalled the alarm to fix it. it has good compression and the tranny shifts fine.

    So it's not running.

$500 or so would be my guess.

yes just like any truck you didn't put the key in and start it so by that definition its not running

hook the alarm wire back up and it runs if you can stand the horn blasting your ears off the whole time lol.

my definition of "not running" is an engine that has issues and cant be started

I asked for your honest opinions and you gave them but im not inclined to go along with a $500 value.

not sure why but I guess you guys are putting NO value in an undamaged non rusted complete front cap, bed, tailgate, non dented front and rear bumpers with no rust, doors and cab with good glass all around, plus a working tranny with no issues along with a not so desirable 5 lug rear end.

have you guys seen the for sale section? looking at what these kinds of parts are selling for separately, and what people say they are paying for "untitled non running undrivable parts trucks" seams to say it has more value then $500

I will grant you that there is not much demand for the 3.0 engine with 260k miles working or not but it is working with good compression so while I agree its a wimp compared to the 3.4, its a hell of a lot more power then the 22r engine so its better then a 4 banger at least

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
The 3.0 isn't as bad as everyone says, slow yes, underpowered, definitely. But the whole head gasket issue can be fixed with a quality gasket. I believe Toyota had a recall out for it years ago. Once you're over that hump, they are a very reliable and trusty engine. The over-glorified 22R/22RE had their fair share of head gasket issues as well that people seem to forget about, also weak ass timing chains with plastic guides that were notorious for either rubbing through or if the chain broke, punch a hole through the block and mix the antifreeze and oil together.

First thing I'm doing to my 22R in my old Toyota pickup when I get it running is changing it to a double row timing chain with metal guides. Easy to do and cheap, preventative maintenance.

It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it. People on this forum are much more knowledgable about Toyotas than someone just looking for any old cheap pickup that runs and drives. I've seen 2wd pickups with lower miles and fewer issues for $1500.

Parting a truck out is much different than selling selling it as it. You have to take into account the time and effort involved.

More power ≠ better. 22r is a much more desirable engine for it's reliability. I had a '91 with the 3.0, and went through the head gasket replacement. After that, it ran great, but it was still a gutless pig. Would have traded for a 4 cylinder in a heartbeat.

All that being said- what've you got to lose from posting it for sale for $1500 and seeing what happens? If no one bites, lower to $1200 obo and take what you can get.

Any truck that runs and drive good is worth at least 1500

I got $1300 for my 94 4x4 standard cab @ 507k miles and a slightly trashed 22re. Would crank but knocked like crazy.

I would ask 1700$ and come down to no less than 1400 assuming he gets it running
