Simplified Cold Air Intake Advice NEEDED Please

Ok, I know there are a ton of threads about CAI on here, and I think I've read them all. Everyone just wants to talk about how their set-up is sooo great. I'm over it.

Here are the questions I want to get answered...simply please. I don't need a diatribe answer. The shorter and to the point the better.

1) Do you need to do anything to the fuel injection after installing an aftermarker CAI? I have been reading some rumors and want to clear that up.

2) How likely will the MAF be affected? I have read about the diameter of the pipe and its relationship to the MAF...

3) Would I need a MAF calibrator?

I am NOT trying to trick out my truck, possibly just get better gas milage with the current prices. Is a CAI even worth it? OR should I go with my current set up of removing the secondary air filter and replacing the OEM filter with a better one? Thanks for anyone's advice!

 

Best bang fro your economy dollar is remove the secondary air filter and get a drop in high flow replacement. I think there's still time to get in on the group buy on aFe Dry Pro S filters.

Granted my driving style helps but my latest 3 tank average is 27.48 mpg with that setup.

 

Thanks Chris! The more and more I read about this thing, the more I realize that it WOULD take at least a year to reap the benefits of a 1-2 mpg gain. Yesterday I removed the secondary air filter and will have to see if that affects my milage. I am also due for a new air filter. Right now I'm getting 17-18 in the city.

 

wow 27 mpg's i'm waiting for us to come up with 100 people for this group buy. i am kinda scared of taking out the secondary air filter though since i saw someone say there is no garuntee that it will not screw my motor up.

 

Its put on there to meet certain smog requirements. I've had mine off for a year now and not a single problem seems to run better and idle smoother, i have no "data" besides the seat of my pants dyno

 

I'm running the AFE oil free drop in, secondary removed, and installed a different muffler awhile back.

Just out of curiosity last night I put the stock air filter back in. This made the truck a lot quieter. Took a movie back and the wife commented that she didn't hear me round the corner arriving home as usual.

The AFE is back in of course but thought I'd let you know it does definitely make a difference in both sound and performance. Also in the 18-19 mpg range around town driving.

 

How on earth are you getting 27 MPG with that? What else, besides the air filter have you done? I only get about 17-18 city right now.

Absoultely not! haha. I made sure to get in a manual...if that helps save any macho-ness (doubt it). It actually gave me no trouble, and part of me wants it back only for the gas milage. But I'd never trade my truck for anything!
