No one mentioned two things. One: the re-gear thread. Which is a Sticky in this section.

    Two: Tire pressure.

What is your current tire pressure? Adding 5 psi can make a noticeable impact on fuel mileage. In either direction. Higher pressure = less resistance = better mileage. Chalk line it if you have to. Take notes of before and after psi increases. Don't over inflate.

Lower psi = more resistance = lower mileage. To low = to much sidewall flex for the street. Within reason, very good for off-road.

Test out by 5 psi increments. See what happens. Also pay attention to tire wear. Cheapest method. Then use the calculator to see which ratio gear would be best fora re-gear. As certain sizes are hard to come by. Also determine is you engine then needs more power. Increase the VE, and decrease the throttle necessary to get it moving.

If you have repeatable before and after dyno pulls that demonstrate what 'tons of power' exactly means, I'm sure folks here would love to see them.

Otherwise it sounds like a magazine ad with gains of 'up to x HP', where the 'up to' starts at 0 and could well stay there.

You should have no problem producing those, because all good tuners build and tweak their maps strapped right on the dyno. The butt dyno and clip on stuff like GTECH can be helpful, but they don't produce the best numbers............

Pretuned solutions out of a box are ok. In fact, quite useful in some applications. Safe, proven, and actual improvement.

But if you use custom tuning gear, and want optimum maps for your vehicle, running conditions, etc., you may well spend as much in dyno time as you do in parts.

Take off the side steps. If you wheel at all (which it appears as if you do) you'll bend the piss out of those eventually. As me how I know. Your mileage will go up, not a huge amount but its all relevant and your power will come back up some. Short of that if you want to spend some coin, you can always have it professionally tuned. Programmers typically do not do much if at all and you will net not only better fuel economy because of Toyota's pig rich factory tune which just dumps fuel into the engine, but your economy will also go up some as well.

Other then that, regear. And even shorter of that, a blower and a 2.8 pulley for it.

Hey man, nothing wrong with tube steps. They aren't a replacement for sliders by any means, but I'm just saying, my wife bought me a cheapo set off Amazon for like $150 as my first mod...and I've high centered on those sumbitches before and they took it like a champ. Also apparently hit a giant rock on the right side and they moved back about 2 inches and basically dethreaded most of the bolts out of the tube, but still, don't just replace for no reason :)

No no. Its not replace man. Its throw them away.

If you didn't bend them, you didn't high center hard enough. Hahaha.

Hahah I couldn't toss them because the wife got them for me, but I did everything I could to destroy them and they just kept on going. I high centered hard enough to bend the tubing a bit and made the mounts bend up about an inch, but standing next to the truck you couldn't tell!

Wife knows better now...she just asks what I want now lol. But most of my mods at this point are out of her price range lol

I want one but I'm only willing to splice so many wires..... so i have to settle for the uni chip.... and the intake spacer works all the mods work but you need a controller to fix the fuel map.......

The most cost effective controller is the maf cal from urd..... with out it your other mods won't be maximized..... the only people that say it doesn't work, don't have one or know how to tune... With the Toyota you are on your own there are no drop in performance mods that work because of the computer limitations... even the supercharger is not drop in and people have hit and miss results but everyone that can tune their own trucks it kicks ass... So you will always get mixed reviews on mods, but if you can tune or know someone you can get the 4.0 to run much better than stock.... I will be testing and mapping my unichip at the dunes over the 4th and will report back...

If you are not familiar with mapping than there are no guaranties just try some bolts and see what happens....

drop in filter and just change the muffler and see if it helps, the intake spacer will give much better low end power that will almost get you back to stock power with better top end and adding a controller will make it much better than stock....

Iridium plugs, all synthetic fluids don't forget the small stuff.....

Haha she kept buying random crap. Example - Volcomtacoma, she buys me a custom trailer hitch cover with a Volcom stone on it....great but I was constantly taking it off and on it was just a hassle lol. Her hearts in the right place, but I finally just had to stop lol. Now we just send each other Amazon.com links for shit we want for gifts lol

Dyno or it didn't happen. Iridium plugs and synthetic fluids aren't going to increase horsepower or torque lol

I switched to synthetic fluids and all it did was decrease my mileage. Lol. But I don't care because it's protecting my engine better.

I like your sarcasm but you are right, I don't have any dyno runs yet it's about an hour from my house so I will only have after results but I will guaranty my mods will blow away your mods..... I do know my truck will run 0-60 in 7.05 with 32s around a 2 second gain so for me that qualifies for a ton.. And now it spins too much so my 0-60 is going down to around 7.3- 7.5 so I'll have to lower tire pressure the next time.. all the things I've don so far I estimate 20-30 hp..... I think that's a lot, maybe not a ton....

I've built and tune hundreds of 500 hp small block chevys and had the top 5 points leaders at every track and ran dynos for years.... tuned drag cars and street racers... I have an expert motorcycle racing licence and raced for 6 years.... Have been tuning power commanders for 10 years.... and I have done modification to my truck.... I love it when people with no tuning experience and no modification on thier trucks fill these threads with shit.... I'm trying to help someone with what I've experienced so far and people with stock trucks say "that doesn't work" well how do you know? I do know because I've tried it..... IF YOUR TRUCK IS STOCK, SHUT UP......

So yes I have not ran it on the dyno yet,,,, so how are all of your amazing mods working and what would you suggest we do to make our trucks better??????????????????????

I will guaranty If you do the mods I suggest you will be very happy...... except for the MPG I'm still working on that......

My truck ran better but I think the MPG did go down, I'm not sure they ship with gear oil in the front diff..... I searched everywhere it says 90 wt gear oil but mine didn't have gear oil in it.... just some light weight black fluid came out.... i think trans fluid but I'm afraid to try it.....

    any know about this????????????

Did you try better plugs???? then you don't know....... what mods have you done so far??????????????

The plugs will increase MPG and acceleration I don't know about measurable HP....

Let me know how your mods are coming.......

    Rofl Agro much?

My mod list going on my truck?

    Front and back LT

    34s
    Regeared 4.56

    TRD SC
    AFE Stage 2 intake
    2.85 URD stealth pulley
    DTST headers
    URD Y pipe
    URD 3" exhaust
    Possibly Maf cal

I'll let you know how that goes and what my dyno is. Have fun with your spacers and spark plugs.

Good to see a guy with 30 years of experience with big cars and bikes and winning races is using spacers on his truck and saying synthetic oil and spark plugs will make your truck go fast.

Anyways, I'm gonna back out of this piss fest now and get back on topic.

OP, it seems most people are recommending a regear to get your power back. I stand by 4.56 gears for you

Why would spark plugs increase acceleration? Furthermore why wouldn't Toyota use them from the factory if so? Yes certain spacers, not all, will take your power and rearrange it but not improve it. Other than that nothing cheap or simple will increase performance.

OP, regear for the power range you wish to have. In my opinion over gearing just a tad is a nice mod and doesn't really rob you of anything unless you're going to miss going 100mph down the highway.

Other than that lightweight wheels and tires can help negate all that mass to be moved. Your truck looks great and you probably want to keep your wheels but that is just an option. And you probably can't find very light 33s. When I go to 33s after my 32s burn up I may try skinny/light tires. Who knows.

Have you considered a supercharger? Nows the time..
