What kind of GPS do you use and where do you mount yours?

I have a Garmin Nuvi 205W. I love it. I just use the suction cup mount and place it in the lower left corner of the dash just above the dash pad. Sorry, no pics. Maybe tonight.

 

Garmin nuvi 760 blue tooth 3 or 4 years old but works like a charm mount it on my window

 

do you like the garmin more then a tom tom.
yeah i want to get one and want to see what it looks like wanted different places.

 

Garmin Nuvi. Hardwired ran behind dash into fuse box w/add a circuit.

this location is perfect. i never get glares from the sun. oh yeah its a magellan

 

been looking at the Nuvi 205 because Sam's has it for $119.00 and to get the mapping software for my etrex legend hand held it would cost that much...

Interesting in opinions of Garmin versus Tom Tom...

Does the Nuvi 205W have storage capabilities (memory stick etc.)

 

i have the garmin street pilot 330c and love it. my wife has a tom tom and it is junk junk. sorry no pics

 

I also have the Garmin 200 series. I think the Garmins have the easiest/best user interface. I travel a lot with rental cars so I just use the windshield suction mount. It works great also. I also have a bean bag mount for the few states that do not allow mounting devices on the windshield.

 

I have seen them all.

Look for NavTeq maps.
Those are the maps that are the best for the USA.

if you are in the UK get Tele Atlas maps.

Garmin uses navTeq, so it is better.
Tom Tom off free fixess for 1 year, but it hardly makes up for the grap maps it uses.
This wil change as Tom Tom owns it own mapping provider, but this just happened.

Tom Tom also offers a $40 upgrade now. but you have to upgrade once a quarter
Gamrin is $99 to $119 Lifetime, but no way to know how long that is.
Factory unit are $200

No matter what you go for. Go for a name brand unit. To many knock offs to name them all.

 

Yeah I have to agree after using different ones that the garmins are the nicest interface to use. I did have the exact same one before and it just stopped being able to locate a signal one day after about a year or so..... replaced it with the exact same one cause i liked it, and it's lasted me another year or so without problems. Love having it hardwired without wires running across the car.

 

what would you guys recommend for a gps for off road use and trails?

 

i know my garmin has an offroad setting. The only thing I've ever used it for was taking it out on the boat to find scuba diving sites. worked great for that. Can you download trail maps or anything with any gps?

 

Garmin 660 (I think) here....and mounted here using Proclip mount. I don't think Proclip makes this mount anymore because it tends to pull the clips out of the climate controls. But - It's fine with me.

 

i have a Magellan Crossover and its bolted to my dash in the center right next to my dashboard camera...

great for street and offroad use for the price...

no pics... too lazy to go outside right now...
