I am looking to hopefully buy a late 90s Tacoma in the near future. I found this one that looks pretty good. KBB is $9k but edmunds tmv is $6100. I have not had a chance to look at it yet so I don't know the condition. This is in PA.

    1998 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4X4 - $8,950

    Mileage: 105,701
    Body Style: Extended Cab Pickup
    Engine: 3.4L V6
    Transmission: MANUAL 5SPD
    Drivetrain: 4X4

    Thanks in advance

I just bought a 96, 3.4L auto, ext cab, 83k miles for $5k. There were 5 buyers lined up that day for the truck though.

So..... $8,950 seems a bit high.

That is a good price for CA.......

If you got a truck for $5k great. but no many people take that big of a hit on a truck that is in high demand...

just search for Rust. if you see lots of frame rust buy it.
Then go to a dealer and get your money...
look it up... I would hate to tel you the wrong thing..
but there is a buy back program...

New Pioneer stereo, and all 4 speakers with Infinity components. Sirius satellite radio. Deckplate mod done. Door buzzer silenced forever thank God, tinted windows, vent visors, hood protector(bug guard), ceramic pads and new rotors, dechromed EVERYTHING. 2" Lift front 3" rear. Skyjacker AAL's and replacement leafs(and front spacers) from Fatbobsgarage.com. Skyjacker 7000 Hydro rear shocks, those Bilstein 5100 fronts are coming soon!
The bad thing and the catch with that is you have to own it for over 1 year. Registered in your name. Which I think is BS...

What would my 2000, 2.7, AT, 4x4 Excab be worth? 142K miles. Rust free frame. A few dents and dings, but looks great, interior nice too. Blue book runs $5600-$6900. Depending on who you use(Kbb, Nada, Edmunds).

i guess my question is, if I ever(doubtfully) were to sell it privately, what would be a fair asking price to y'all?

Thanks for the feedback. We went and looked at the truck tonight and it was a no haggle(we give you the best price) dealership. The truck had multiple dents(like bb gun wounds) and quite a bit of rust on the underside. The dealer was not willing to haggle. We stopped at another dealership on the way home and they had a 2000 Base 4wd with 88k. They wanted 10,900. They were also not willing to haggle, and explained the reason for the price is the frame recall. I may get flamed with the following statement, but I don't see how in the current economy, anyone would pay that much for a 10 year old truck. It was in good shape, but I just don't understand. I will continue my search with private sellers.

    thanks again for the feedback

I found another one not too far from me. It spent half of it's life in FL and GA, so the body should be better than one that lived it's whole life in PA.

    1995 TOYOTA TACOMA XTRACAB
    200k miles
    CLUB CAB PICKUP
    3.4L V6 FI DOHC 24V
    4 WHEEL DRIVE
    Gray

The seller sent me some hi res pics and it looks pretty good. He is asking 4,500, which seems high to me. If it looks like it was taken care of, should I be concerned with the mileage? This won't be a daily driver, just a third vehicle we can use for picking up wood and stuff.

    thanks again in advance

I found they hold their value very well. You have to go back to before the "Tacoma" name existed until they really start dropping in value. That really says something about quality. "You get what you pay for"

We got the truck for 4200. It is in pretty good shape. The truck has a matching cover which is nice. I will need to get it detailed. The guy I bought if from said the previous owner tried to wet sand it and did not do a good job. The scratches are not very deep so it should be able to be cleaned up. I did have one mechanical issue that happened after we got home. I pressed the clutch down, and it did not come back up, and it could not be put in gear. I was able to lift the clutch up with my foot, then it worked fine. From what I read it looks like it may be air in the line or the clutch master cylinder. I will look at it later this week. I will post some picks later on. Thanks again for the feedback.
