IR 2340, single phase, 220v type -30 compressor, 17 cfm 90 psi, 9 cfm at 175 psi, with 80 gallon tank, about 15 years old. It lives in a compressor shed, plumbed with 1/2 black iron and rarely turned off.

I've seen minimalist dive shop operations work their compressors out of a small shed with PVC pipe running out the shed to get fresh air into the compressor so the inside ventilation (while still of course important just like for any structure) is less of a factor

Compressor is well ventilated, heat is not an issue, a failing motor is my problem...

That's a nice little compressor but I think more suited for nail guns. Check cfm and pressure required for what impact you buy and make sure the compressor can keep up with it. Specs are available for both I'm sure.

is there a nice portable compressor that's suitable for impact drivers that's not the size of a water heater ?

Or perhaps an electric impact...not as good, but better that a breaker bar.

My issue was the adjustable slipping/rounding, the 23 held it, and I got the cheater over it which I couldn't with the adjustable, like you.

Did your 23 mm not have a 21 or 25 on the other end so that you were able to slide the cheater over the handle ?

No, it was a 23 open on one end and box on the other. Also note that a 24 is probably the "correct" size, but I wasn't comfortable with it being so loose, if you strip the cam you are hosed.

I have a Harbor Freight 1/2" drive impact wrench. It's never failed to remove whatever I used it on. It works fine on 90psi air which is the standard for shop air. It doesn't use a lot of air cfm wise.

Be sure to use impact sockets and extensions, regular sockets won't stand up to impact wrenches.

Yeah, I have a bunch of 2x2" square tube from building my bumpers that I use for cheater, fits over most anything, and I can make it as short/long as I need.

Also, I think I propped the 23 with the breaker against the body and just gave the bolt hell.
