They don't do custom work... I've asked them in person... They will sell you the material though...

for what it's worth... my topper is shorter than the cab... but lotsoftoys is about an inch or two above... same year extra cab 1st gen... mine is just an older topper. so they may have older models...

Kneeboarders pic of his double cab 1st gen is what I'm talking about. The top is at the perfect height, in my opinion

Here is the difference in the vertical rail bars between the 6ft version and the 5ft version. In the pic the softopper that is fully assembled is the 6ft version off the white extended cab. My finger is pointing to the top of the bars ( see the split in the tubing) - clearly I was a bit off on the length since it looks like its 3-4" - sorry I didn't use a tape measure.

    Softopper
I just picked up this tan softopper about a month ago. I thought I would share because I wasn't able to find a picture anywhere on the internet of a black tacoma with the tan topper. It turned out looking better than I was expecting. I also picked up an AirBedz truck bed mattress and we took it on its first camping trip when we went down to the Mt. Airy Fiddler's Convention in North Carolina. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of the whole setup in action.

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
Keep searching the Google machine. I ordered mine right from softopper. I did not find any deals to make it better at the time. GL

Yeah. I've been searching and trying to find retailers, but not many have the softopper. Bestop can be found all day long, but the side windows are a turn off for me.

Must be why they have deals. The side windows.

ATO front skid (need more but icon's might fail if I hang anything else from my truck) All-Pro front bumper thanks to a good deal here and a pesky encounter with a rock or 20, total chaos uppers.
I actually like the side windows but having seen how the best top looks "looses" I will take the tight fit and no side windows

I like the look of the windows, but the windows can't rolled up as easy as fabric.

I physically went to Softopper to get mine. I bought EVERYTHING. The soft top, both rear windows, the boot, and the roll up truck side window. NO discounts at all. And I got to pay sales tax too. :)

Softtopper directly, they may not offer discounts, but they will bend over backwards to take care of their customers. for example, I bought my soft topper 2nd hand, it had a broken snap, one torn through, every clip was broken, the rear most arm of the frame was broken, and I didn't have the snaps or Velcro to keep the front secured to the inside of the bed.

they gave me the snaps and Velcro for the front free of charge, even loaned me a drill guided me through the process. charged me a total of $40 to replace 2 snaps (and reinforce the one that pulled through) replaced ALL clips, and replaced the rear frame (they called it the A bar). AND because I couldn't make it up to their shop during business hrs (I work in Denver and can't make it there before they close due to traffic) they opened up on Saturday just to give me my topper back. Oh and btw, threw in two bottles of seam sealer, because I told them I was going to camp in it and they wanted me to stay dry!

AWESOME people, can't say enough good about them! I'm building a rack for my RTT, so my Softtopper will be going up for sale... but if I ever go back, softtopper is where my $ is going!

So back to my original concern about the height above the cab on a 2nd Gen DCSB, so can somebody tell me if a 1st Gen DCSB top would fit on a 2nd Gen DCSB and sit even with the cab since it looks as though they do on the 1st Gen? Or is the way it installs completely different?

I assume the install is completely different. as mentioned the bed width is different, but also mine uses traditional clamps to clamp the sides down to the bed, on the 2nd gen you couldn't use that, I think they use the factory rails.

you can "suck" the top down by pulling the straps down more... you'd just have a little slack in the sides... don't know if that would cause you an issue... Call softtopper... their customer service is top notch they'll answer all your questions

This is for the 6ft bed, but below is the response from Softopper when I asked a similar question before selling the topper from the white 1st gen I posted earlier:

It will fit the newer 2005 + Tacoma ( though they willl need to order special clamps for the utiity tracks in the bed ( $21 for 4 including shipping ) )

It will also fit the 2005 + Nissan Frontiers with the 6 foot bed.

    I have a quick question – two years ago I bought a softopper for a 2003 tacoma, 6ft bed. Softopper Model #TN73

I’m trying to sell it (to buy a softopper for the 5ft bed). Is that model specific to the 1996-2004 Tacomas, or will it fit the 2005+ Tacomas as well.

    Thanks

I stand corrected. mine is an older model (sits well below the cab) and no way would fit on a 2nd gen bed... barely fits mine and is taught all around.
