One time one dog puked on the other one's back in the backseat of the Taco. And we couldn't pull over. That sucked. Then once we finally could pull over, we discovered all we had for clean up was a couple teeny tiny Dairy Queen napkins. Not a fun time. :)

still not as bad as a cat taking dump on the back floorboard with diarea, sisters cat did this in her car lol

I laughed my ass off at her but somehow she didn't think it was funny at all

told her to replace the carpet but she didn't want to spend $150 doing it so she cleaned and shampoo, cleaned and shampoo, and finally even steam cleaned it until finally admitted it would never stop stinking.

so finally after 2 months she gave up and replaced the carpet because her car smelled like a port-a-potty. from now on the cat always goes to the vet in a pet carrier instead of roaming around freely in the car lol

Morning TW!! Happy Tuesday!! How's everyone doing on this fine day?

I have totally immersed myself in planning our Sept trip. Still considering about a million options. Spending tons of time staring at maps and reading books/websites about a bunch of different remote wilderness areas. So excited!!! But tough to choose. So many cool places to see. Back to considering some camping on a limited basis for part of the time, because we just can't make it to some stuff unless we camp a night or two, because things are so spread out, and rough roads take a long time to travel on.

Meanwhile, neighborhood drama continues. I keep seeing this out front :gossip: which is so lame. If ya got something to say, just say it. Tell me to my face why you think it's ridiculous that it pisses me off when your dog is left to roam the streets while you are not even home. Would love to hear that explanation. Whatevs. This too shall pass. If I could survive the engine swap and hard start issue, some dumb neighborhood gossip & tensions should be a cake walk in comparison. :D

    mmmm, cake......:hungry:

Eric did an at home sleep study last night guys! We've suspected he might have sleep apnea for years, and finally ~6 months ago he decided to see a doc about it. Then all the Taco stuff happened, and our focus shifted solely to that until just recently. Now we're catching up with all the crap we had on our plate back in November. Kinda weird. Anyway, it will suck if he has to use a CPAP machine since they don't look very comfortable, but also if it's going to help him sleep better and therefore not be so tired during the day, that would be awesome and worth it overall. Makes me nervous when we are driving long distances and he looks ready to fall asleep at the wheel.

Any of you have a CPAP?

kidding aside, i work with several guys who are now on a CPAP machine. I was able so see the differences in their personalities almost immediatly. they also told me that they are pretty sure the machine saved their lives. I only kn ow of one person who had a hard time gettin g used to the face mask. He finaly got used to it.

Several of the guys I work with had a pretty good weight problem. They all lost weight and felt much better overall.

The only negative I hear from any of them was trying to find a place to put the machine. One of my friends just put it on the floor. Unfourtunately, his geriatric collie like to sleep on the floor next to the macnine as well...right next to the air intake. I can only imagine how bad concentrated dog farts smell, especially when you are in a much needed deep sleep. My understaning was you can't get the mask off fast enough.

but, yeah, those machines have turned many peoples lives around in a great way.

My dad has needed a CPAP for probably 7 years now.. very overweight, poor lungs, allergies, asthma, sleep apnea, etc,. He too used to fall asleep at the wheel and would regularly drive down the highway slapping himself in the face to stay awake, literally. Slept half the day and still couldn't drive 2 hours without endangering everybody.

CPAP has helped him, he still has a lot of issues to deal with, but it's a wonder I made it out of my childhood and teen years with the risks he took behind the wheel with me and the family in the car before he tried to figure out the cause of the issues.

I believe there are a lot of CPAP masks, so he should be able to find one more comfortable. That said, my dad sleeps like a rock with it on, as uncomfortable as it seems.

Good luck with that, it's definitely an improvement.

Who thinks we should lobby for Jen to get a smart phone? Just think, we wouldn't have to wait for her to get to a computer to up load pics. Just think, she could take pics of the neighbors dog roaming the streets. Instant evidence of the neighbors acting like assess. The uses of a smart phone are limitless. We wouldn't have to wait to see the results of this bed cap, which is absolutely driving me nuts!

I guarantee if you get a smart phone, you will be a picture taking mofo.:poking:

Wow, thanks for the feedback guys! Love my TW buddies :)

We've heard lots of positives too, like you guys are saying. That getting a CPAP made a night and day difference for lots of people, suddenly they had energy they didn't have before because they could finally get really good, deep sleep. We are super hopeful this will be the case for him. It's obvious why he's tired all the time - he's gasping for air when he tries to sleep, and he keeps waking himself up doing it!! That would make me damn tired too, along with very cranky.

The stories you described @PeeRunner - they are all too familiar. He will ask me to slap him to help him wake up when he's driving! He even suggested bringing one of those little plastic spray bottles filled with icy cold water to blast him in the face with if he's dozing while driving!! We had to stop every hour or two on that trip to Boise we did a couple weeks ago, just so he could get up and stretch/wake up. Takes a long time to get anywhere at that rate, and the fear of crashing is a bit of a buzz kill on a road trip, which it sounds like you experienced first hand growing up!! Glad you survived buddy. Just think, now you are here to help us fellow TW folks figure out the meaning of life!! :D

Eric & I both put on a few stress lbs this winter, between the Taco problems and the winter weather. But he's already shed a few of those, and really isn't overweight much, save for a small beer gut. We plan to keep shedding a few more, but I'm thinking it's more than just a weight thing for him. I know weight can be a big factor in it though, so it's worth continuing to work on that part too.

The real bummer of sleep apnea is that it is significantly worse if you drink alcohol. That really blows. Eric loves his beer. Ain't no simple solution to this one that I know of........except that if the doc says one beer per night is OK, we'll have to shop for beer like the one Keakar posted!! :)

The other real bummer for Eric is he has a deviated septum. He started by seeing an ENT, to be sure there wasn't some other problem/explanation for his sleep apnea type symptoms. She said his septum is severely deviated and recc' surgery to correct it. She thought that could fix the apnea by itself, and said if it didn't, then he should do a sleep study afterwards. But that surgery sounds fairly risky (after he read about weird risks like docs accidentally causing a hole in that little flap of skin that separates your nostrils, then how you'd make a whistling noise when breathing through your nose for the rest of your life, he was not so keen on the idea - imagine that?). So we saw a few more ENT's to get more opinions. The others said do the sleep study, and made it seem like the problems are not really related - that fixing the septum would not fix the apnea. So we went for the study, and are still considering the surgery. The concern is whether he'll be able to tolerate the mask without the surgery. Apparently people with deviated septums have an even harder time finding a CPAP mask that they can wear comfortably. Hoping he doesn't have this problem.

@koditten , your dog fart story is priceless. Must share with Eric ASAP. And maybe even his sleep doc. Something tells me he'd get a big kick outta that one. He's one of those cool docs with a lovely smart ass sense of humor :D

And @Old School , your video illustrates Koditten's story PERFECTLY. Well done my friend, well done. :D

I know, I know. I really do need to. It's ridiculous to be using a flip phone in this day and age. And not know how to text. Hell, I don't even know what Bluetooth means! I do have an IPOD shuffle though - does that qualify me as technologically advanced? :D

Also, make sure he keeps an eye on his CPAP hoses (buy spares), they tend to grow mildew and if you don't notice by visually checking, you'll likely just blow it all into your lungs and get infections..
