But like you said the main leaf is crucial for the whole build, Worthy of noting tho' is that most if not all 5 lug 'yotas are SUA ... Thats a great looking spring you've got there bro'....

 

Does where/how far away from the main eye/center bolt matter on each leaf, or should you just center it when cutting the leafs?

 

Hi matt, don't confuse yourself with the process bro' haha Keep in mind that 2nd gens are equal length from center pin to shackle end (rear) & hanger end(front) If building off just the main , use the numbers I gave you earlier & you can't miss.....you can DOOOOO IT !!

 

Haha alright, sounds good! Thanks, I'll be adding like 3 to each side onto the main leaf for 3" of lift about? Or could I cut them a lil shorter and have more for tow/haul?

 

Depending on how heavy & how often you tow , but I digress, these numbers provided are based on 2 members springs I built 3 years ago & these guys tow regularly & beat the shit out of them offroad & the ARC they've maintained thru out is amazing ......

Just wanted to verify that these springs will work... 1984 GMC sierra 1/2 ton rear leafs. Looks like they have nice arch and are $70 on craigslist. Let me know what y'all think.

 

I think pretty good, close to 2.25 inches wide?

 

Waiting on a text back from the seller, but after doing some research they should be to 2.5" me thinks.

Those look like good donors, they're eliptical too....

 

Hey Doug! What's elliptical mean in terms of leaf springs?

 

They're longer on one side of the pin than the other.
if they're 2.5" you'll want to touch them with the grinder where the u bolts go.

 

Thanks for the info. Do elliptical springs cause any issues when doing this spring refurbishing? I'm guessing only one side will have to be cut to meet the proper arch if they're elliptical.

 

Well I think the longer side goes to the rear

 

You'll want to cut them equidistant from the pin.
I can't speak as to which way to install them after cutting though.

 

Doug had said just center them and it'll be good

 

This donor spring broke and looking at the donor pack from the opposite side. Looking at the rust pitting line at the edge of the 'squeak' pad Is this going to break as well?
