So, I was just sitting in my truck on my break and I noticed a few scratches on the plastic (or w/e it is) in front of my gauges (like where the speedometer is etc..). So, I took my fingernail and LIGHTLY went over one of the worst looking ones to see if it was really a scratch and my fingernail scratched it!!! Then I took my jacket, in disbelief that my fingernail could scratch it and tried to LIGHTLY rub it off and well, my jacket scratched it!!!!! Why in the world is my truck so cheap!? The paint is really easy to scratch, my windshield already has "chips" in it from nothing.. grrr

Is there a way to clean these off or protect it to prevent future scratches? Or any ideas on replacing it all together? This is SO frustrating!!!!

I mean I know this isn't a huge deal, but with looking at them after 3 months of being used (I don't even touch them that much!) I can't imagine what it will look like after a few years!

try Novus Polish kit, plastic polish and scratch remover kit 8oz. Its really good, should do the trick or at least make it much less noticeable.. :D

No problems with them myself, but then all I've done with them is reset the oil-change meter once and dust them off with a swiffer cloth.

How'd you scratch it in the first place?

Best bet sounds like order new gauge plastic, and install it with a protective cover laminate of some kind.

Or, you could disassemble, make a template, and whip you up some custom jobs out of something stronger like lexan if you have the tools/time.

I havn't done anything to them! The worst is I may have cleaned them with glass cleaner and a paper towel when I washed my truck.. Other than that I don't even touch them except to reset my trip thingey.. That's why I'm so upset about it, they should not be that cheap!

I know what ya mean! I've got to the point of only touching the plastic once a year. I use a can of air to get the dust off, then use plastic cleaner/scratch remover with a very soft damp rag...then wipe off. I've been useing rags made from old flannel sheets.

Haha my dealership hates me because they scratched my headlight somehow and I took it in and told them I didn't want to see the scratches ever again or they were going to replace my headlight.. hehe

I actually cracked that clear plastic piece a tiny bit when I took it apart to do the "electrical tape over TPMS light mod".

Moral of the story, I feel your pain. It gets better with time I promise.
