Never had anything but OEM spec tire sizes on a vehicle before. Just bought a 2015 TRD 4WD, and at some point I'm considering replacing my 17" OEM alloys with 16" aftermarket wheels and taller tires than the 265/65/17's that came stock on the truck. My question is, how will taller tires with more sidewall on a small diameter wheel handle off and on road? I'm guessing better traction and softer ride, but a little squirmy on pavement. Am I right? If so, what would be the tallest tire I could put on 16" wheels without severely effecting handling on the road? Also, do tires with a large sidewall wear faster or less uniformly than lower profile tires?

I run 285/75/17 on my stock sport wheels and they are great with handling.

I have 285/75/16 on right now. If you keep the air pressure relatively low the ride softens up quite a bit. Never have to worry about scraping my wheel on the curb! IMO it looks so much better than tall wheels and small tires. It's also better offroad.

If you want to go above 265s you will need to lift and/or trim (possibly a lot of trimming) depending on how high you go, wheel specs etc.

I have a 2 1/2 lift in front and 1.25 in the rear. I just bought 4 spidertrex 1.25 wheel spacer to kick out my tires. I am stuck on the 265/75/15 or 285/70/17.

Jesus Ahshiet you have been busy. What is your lift to get 315's on and how much trimming did u do? 315 is to big for me because I have alot of driving to do. Florida to Cali then cali to WA. 265/75 or 285/70 is where I am at.

Can 265/75/R16 tires safely be mounted on 16" Konig Countersteers? The wheels are 8" wide with a 4.5" backspacing. Does the feasibility of a safe mount on this wheel depend on the tire manufacturer's recommendation? What backspacing does my stock 17" alloy have? If I go with this combo, without Deepsea's 1.25" spacers, and no lift, will I rub?

Consider what tires you want to run before making a wheel decision. 265/75R16 vs 265/70R17 are the same size and you will not notice the 1/2" sidewall difference off road. I personally am looking at 265/70R17 BFG KO2s in C-load that are 45lbs. The same tire in 265/75R16 is only available in E-load, not only are they more expensive they are also 53lbs! You should look at the wheel/tire combo as a whole, not individually.

265- no 285- yes, on the fender well. You can run 265/75 without the spacer and won't rub. Adding the spacer to 285s will just change where you rub.
