    Hi,

I am pretty impulsive when it comes to buying large items, usually I don't think twice if I have the cash.

I am looking to buy a 6x10 or 6x12 enclosed trailer and I am ready to hear some opinions as to why I should go with single over double axle or 70" ceiling height over 76". I will be using this as my mobile garage, and occasionally base camp for hiking and mountain biking.

Given my Tacoma is a baby, both engine wise and only 6,600 miles I am not trying to break any towing records (although Toyota will tell you that they are 100% service rated trucks [when properly equipped]) my towing capacity is 3500#.

    What are your opinions?

Might not matter where you drive, but tolls in some areas become really expensive with more axles

I hadn't thought about tolls but that is something I will now consider. Thanks

Dual axles usually ride nicer for the contents, and if you're buying, might as well go bigger than you think you need cause they fill up quick. Keep in mind where you're going to store it though too.

Dual axles for the brakes and increased load and stability. Much safer to load when NOT hooked to a hitch and freeestanding on it's front jack. I went w/ 70" over 76" because I didn't need the extra height and I was trying to keep the frontal wind sail size to a minimum. If I was to do it again, I might go w/ the 76" for the extra options it offers in towing. Specifically UTVs. That's why you see so many 76" heights out there. Need the extra height for the UTVs. I wouldn't pay the extra for an aluminum trailer in this size. The weight difference is minimal if not the same or more for the aluminum. In order to make an aluminum trailer as stiff as a steel version, you need to use A LOT more aluminum which ends up weighing about the same for smaller trailers. Not worth eh extra expense to me.

Stay away from Lark or anything made in Georgia. Stay w/ stuff made in Indiana. I went w/ a 7x12 H&H. Very happy. Ended up paying less than a similar Lark.

    Mine.

I tow a 6x10 Pace Cargo Sport with my 2.7L Access Cab. The inside height is 71" and the empty weight is 1140 pounds. When I load it up for camping I figure it runs about 2000 to 2100 pounds. I wish I had more headroom since I am 6'1", but that means more frontal area and more drag.

^ balloons? What the heck is that?

How do you like your Pace trailer quality? I just checked out a Haulmark 6' x 12' with barn doors in the rear and V-nose. I'm 5'6" and the roof felt low at 70".

It is a 15 reflecting telescope (an Obsession Dobsonian). I use the trailer for camping over in West Virginia. I bought the trailer from a friend who was the original owner. It has torsion bar suspension and rides very nicely. The only issue I have had with it is the top nosepiece at the front. It developed some cracks, but I was able to repair them with fiberglass and that has held up nicely. It has a rear ramp door. This trailer was built before Pace went under and were resurrected by new owners. Not sure what the quality is like now.

What type (brand) awning is that? I really need to put one on the trailer.
AND, when you say you bolted it, did you seal the track with butyl caulk or
something similar to keep water out of the holes required to mount it to the trailer?

Is a 99" cascadia vehicle tents (CVT) awning. I bolted it it straight through the awning and trailer to the inside, then I sealed the instead of the the trailer with rtv.

Nice buy! For anything I'd put in an enclosed trailer, 1 axle would be fine. I'm short enought to stand in a 70", so I'd be fine with that as well. Always wondered how much difference the angled front made in wind resistance. What's the empty weight on that and how did the Taco like it? I have a regular cab 4wd also and have towed a up to 3,000lbs or so with it but nothing that caught a lot of wind.

I pick my trailer up tomorrow. 800+ miles to travel this weekend I will let you all know how it hauls unloaded and loaded.

First leg of my trip will be unloaded 800+ miles from Wisconsin to upstate New York. The following weekend the trip in reverse loaded.

You were right about the aluminum being the same weight as the steel. The steel was a steal keeping $900 in my pocket over the aluminum.
