You still didn't answer the question. Your own quote pretty much speaks to what I am saying. It specifically details once an airbag is deployed the speed is influenced 1) seat position and, 2) weight sensor. Am I missing something here, where does it say seatbelt chime? Next time dont quote a rag car magazine either.

How was overriding the chime talked about in this thread? Two ways: a dummy belt clip and disconnecting a wire on each seat. Since manufacturers, in an effort to make production less complex and cheaper, frequently use the same sensor to give information to multiple systems, this is most likely the wire that also tells the airbag system if the belt is hooked which, in some cars, affects the airbag deployment force. So, my recommendation for people who want to permanently disable the sensor for the seatbelt latch is that they find out if it directly affects the airbag deployment in the Tacoma or not. Note that I didn't say whether it deploys or not. Airbags also adjust in speed and pressure based on sensors. Personally, I'd like for my airbag to work in the optimal way for the situation in which it is deployed. Maybe you don't. That's up to you. I've always felt that knowing as much as possible before altering a system – particularly one that may affect safety – on my vehicles usually avoids problems down the road. Perhaps most readers on this board agree with you, perhaps not. Either way, it's a valid concern and worth mentioning.

If you are following the rest of this thread = "pissing contest" The vehicle is designed with a feature to disable the seat belt warning chime. There is no need to disconnect sensors, plug in dummy buckles or debate the consequences of such actions. The dealer or a buddy with a copy of Tech Stream software (available via e-bay, Amazon etc) can disable the chime in 5 minutes! Once disabled, the dash warning lamp illuminates (flashes) for about 10 seconds and the chime rings about 5 times when the vehicle is started, (about the time it takes for me to put on my sunglasses and buckle my seat belt), then silence!

 

Pull out gauge cluster. On the back is a little speaker. Remove it. No more annoying ding.

The factory disable feature does not disable the dash warning indicator (lamp -icon). It illuminates if your seat belt is not connected and turns off when you buckle up. The warning chime "dings" about 5 times when you start the vehicle then stays off. Disconnecting the battery does NOT reset function. It can only be restored to factory defaults by Tech Stream - FYI

 

and not being a smart ass... why exactly would anyone not want their seatbelt on off road? no picking on me for having a pre-runner but have owned plenty of 4x4's and I for sure wanted my seatbelt on in case of the jeeper creeper rollover potential. Even on fire roads it's likely game might run out and cause you to wreck... or hit em.... I get that.. but hope not...

Why? Because I am running ranch roads and not the Baja. In and out of vehicle a lot. I am hunting not 4 wheeling.

 

Yep - it chimes 5 times in 4 seconds, then goes off. Lame of not, that's the way it is. I hardly notice it. (unlike the constant chime that is the real subject of this thread)

 

Key point here is it dings and then quits. I disabled on 2009 and was fine with dings on start up. Son really liked it too because he did not have to remember to fasten belt when he got out at first gate. Then on way out you have to remember to unfasten it.

And if you are clipping along down a dirt road at dusk or dawn or at night, headed to the spot where you walk in.
And a deer jumps out and you slam into him. And you hit your face on the windshield.

I hope that when the "jumper" hits that deer, he hits it hard enough to kill it, then after he peels his face off the windshield - LOL - he can field dress the kill and save himself the walk to his hunting spot - LOL!! As a former LEO let me just say... absolutely zero excuse for driving without a seat belt on.

We are talking Texas deer here not moose. Plus on the ranch roads I drive you are going to tear your truck up if driving fast enough to injure yourself hitting a deer. I always wear the seat belt on public roads unless it is fastened behind me and I forget to unfasten at last gate.

Anyone who hunts, wheels, or has a dog that weighs more than a feather knows how annoying the chime is.

It is also not illegal to drive without a seatbelt on private property. Where I am, and likely any other state that has a profession that requires the frequent entry and exit of a vehicle has an annotation that allows the occupants to not wear a seat belt and be within the law if their profession requires frequent entry and exit.

These trucks also have a push button feature that disables airbags - Toyota knows the vehicles are used off road.

 

First trip out with the pup, realized I like to wheel un buckled, and the boy like to ride shotgun. Seat belt chime, It had to go. Dealerships are retarded claiming they "cant by law blah blah"...
Anyone who makes lame comments bashing those that want to remove the chime, keep em to yourself, if it aint positive, beneficial or even relevant, why waste our time?
