You probably already know this but there isn't much cost difference to either yourself or the manufacturer anymore between a manual crank or an electric motor and switch anymore. Plus having more manual options adds some manufacturing cost. Hence why automakers don't offer the different manual options as commonly as they once did. Not to mention most vehicles are prewired for all the options anyways to save cost on complexity and increase the simplicity of building there products which increases reliability.

Overall, less simple options equals greater efficiency and reliability which makes a company more money than offering things like old manual crank windows. Not to mention the higher base cost to the consumer translates into greater direct profits as well.

    Yep.

Actually it is kinda nice...I do like power windows (I don't have to stretch/lean over to roll down the passenger window)...AC is also nice, though I don't use it very much here in Idaho...like I did in AZ...hell it ran for 1/2 the year in AZ. First 5 years in AZ (coming from PA) my 4Runner didn't have AC...gawd damn that sucked.

I know people tend to bitch, that all the electronic gizmos is just more crap to break...I dunno, haven't had any of the power stuff go out on the poverty Taco... that is with 300,000 miles on the ODO. Some of the mechanical parts have failed though, like wheel bearings, u-joints, and seals.

4x4 v6 manual is extremely rare around here. No pics for that link but that's pretty cheap. Is that a 5 lug or 6? What the cost of the sr, sr5, and TRD package?

All 4WD's are 6 lugs, The SR package is the cheapest 4WD/V6 you can get. I haven't researched the SR5 or TRD package lately.

Oh okay. I wonder how much you're actually saving by getting a base, and if there is anything that you can't swap out. For example I would swap out seats, radio, and add a tow package.

What I would save on the truck I would spend elsewhere, and still be under $30K. I would add to the base would be a receiver hitch/wiring harness (under $200) and intermittent wiper pod ($50-100, depending where you look)...suspension sucks even on the Pro, I would wait until the stock springs fail, usually around 50K miles in my experience...then toss on UCA's...some decent coil-overs like Kings, Foxes, or Camburgs....and Old Man Emu Dakars in the rear...with emulsion shocks, roughly $3000 in suspension. Which will out perform any of the options that Toyota offers.

Radio...I run an ipod/phone through an amp, would just pull that out of my current truck.

So you're talking about a lift as well. Off road is par but as far as comfort stock it rides like butter imo. You wouldn't buy ome front shocks? Are Dakars much stiffer? Also, what's an emulsion shock? I run 5100s all around. Yes any aftermarket will outperform stock I agree. As for the radio, GPS capability would eliminate my need for my phone in the truck. I use that GPS a lot. So I would want the head unit. That's just a 300 dollar mod. I would also add a rear locker to the 8.4 diff.

You can't rebuild the OME's, I have Camburgs on my current truck which have 230K miles on them, I rebuild them every 100,000 miles, cost a little more than OME's...but since they are serviceable, makes it worth it to me. Yeah, a little stiff for daily use, but I tend to be in the dirt just about every weekend...stock won't cut, especially loaded down with camping gear blasting down wash board roads.

    Emulsion Shocks

GPS, I really don't use...I am kinda old school and still like paper maps, that or simply feeling my way along, tend to find the coolest stuff when I am not looking for it.

Locker, I have one...and rarely use it.

I didn't know camburgs were rebuildable. What's the rebuild cost? Thanks for that link. And as far as GPS I work in a new town every summer (college student) and I can't count how many times I've used that thing. It can pull you out of a bind quickly.
    Yes sir!
