What about one to fit under an already existing tool box? I would be down for that.

Well I was thinking of adding a tool box on top of the refueler as an option

In foreign markets that may be an option but I am trying to get a legal tank for the US market

i drove side roads out of rolling rock @ Austin heading west on a Sunday morning early, just after an ice storm and travelled perhaps 190 miles before finding an open station. Had I not filled up in Austin, I would have been stranded. Small towns / villages off track from major highways don't stay open like those on let's say, hwy 10. I do a lot of side tracking when I travel. I just want added security that I'll more than likely never run out of gas unless I want to.

Sounds like a refueling tank would work for you, what size would you prefer?

I've had great success with the aux tank setup I put together, I use a 15 gallon marine tank (holds closer to 16 gallons when completely full) that I keep under the tool box in the bed. Great size, because if you don't count the fuel you have left once the empty light goes on, you are essentially doubling your range. I tied it into the stock filler neck, and can transfer fuel into the stock tank on the fly, with dual fuel pumps that I can turn on from the cab. While bizarre, it's very convenient to watch your fuel gauge raise as you drive down the highway.

You can get the tank on Amazon for about $150. the means of fuel transfer and price of the rest of the needed parts are really up to you. I have about $200-$250 into the entire setup.

ground the tank, and it's no different than the tank sitting below the bed.

What should have been in the post above was that I think your setup is very clean.

If you build a tank to fit where the spare tire is, it would still be street-legal in the US market. Remember, the regulations governing new vehicles sold in the US are not the same as regulations for modifying an existing vehicle and keeping it roadworthy (i.e. able to pass a state inspection).

The DOT does not allow a refueling tank to be mounted below the bed line or above the line of the top of the cab. If you want to connect it to feed into your existing OEM tank, legally it has to be tested and approved by Air Resources Board

So how many of you would actually buy one if we got a 20gal refueler built?...... Since that's the one with the most votes so far

ground the metal components on the top end of the tank. there's a metal fitting that goes into the tank, to the metal suction tube that sticks down to the bottom of the tank. other than that, it's just making sure the fuel pumps are set up properly, with adequate wire gauge running them, and the correct size fuse.
