Well , I would suggest either using a grout saw and removing all the full tiles in the area where the fan would go and then re tiling around the fan housing or using a grinder with a applicable tile cutting wheel and cutting out the rough in size you need for the fan intake from below and dropping the fan in from above

So after spending another full week at a client job I finally got to carry on with my handrail

Got the inside curved side trim applied and the bottom box fitted , ready for glue


This little corner has sucked up a couple months of my life lol

I can see people giving flack for posting the aftermath but I don't see any issues with that photo.

 

Can't see any frame work very well on my phone, but is that what happened? A beam splice came apart because it wasn't supported?

 

Just need to get rid of all the concrete then I can start digging for the footings.

 

You can see that the beam has failed in a couple unsupported splices

 

Lol , I have a similar picture of my wife busting up old concrete at our place

But that job sucked at my old place. I did about 50 feet of concrete path in no time, broke apart nicely. Back steps, not too bad. Landing area below steps...could not start a crack anywhere, just crumbling off edges. Start hitting some weird shit, and somestuff that looked like angle iron. After whittling away and swearing for a few hours with the rental time ticking away, I can finally see that some fucking douchebag used an entire aluminum garage door upside down, frame up, as "reinforcement."

Many many many many F bombs were issued on that day.

 

Got some more time in on my railing yesterday and today

Got the lower box glued up ( save 1 side )

and fitted the curved and straight section handrails

I'll fix them on tomorrow then I will be able to close up the boxes and finish the final trims

It will get a few clear coats of Varathane oil which is what is on the stairs , so after some UV and time , the colour of the Fir will be similar to the stair treads / risers

 

I go to bed trying to figure out what my next step should be and how to proceed

 

The railing basics were already pretty much set by the shape of the stairs , I basically just needed to figure out a way to laminate the pieces and design what the newel boxes should look like as well as what the handrail sizing / profile should be , then it goes on to stuff like , how do I build the form to work for 3 laminations , how do I fit , figure out lengths and phyically cut the curved pieces , which pieces should be installed first so I don't get stuck at a later point , how do I attach the handrails blindly and how do I physically install the fasteners that hold the handrails etc
