On my truck the top of the axle tube to the bottom of the frame (just behind the bump stop) is 11 1/8"

edit: I found a stock 97 Tacoma. It looked to be very low/saggy. No weight in the bed and the axle to frame was 9 1/2"

The 4runner is getting a little Rock Therapy love. I won some RCI A-Arm skid plates. Go them installed today. I'm also in the process of installing the Anti-Dark hood lights on the 4runner.

I was able to install my Anti-Dark. I won it last year just after I picked up my 2004 4runner. The install is easy with the provided parts. A must have part for those who wheel at night. @BeeRadd @Mach375 Thank you for allowing me to see the light

Aluminum, fairly thick. Nice and Solid when mounted. All of my tickets went in the skids and the Toytec coil-overs. Got lucky on the skids. I'll be getting some RCI Skids here soon I hope. I'll have to piece them together when I can afford them. Honestly, the truck will get them 1st as it will see most of the abuse.

In Moab I found the rear suspension of the Tacoma was not up to the task. It started out as a stock pack with an add-a-leaf. When loaded with modest gear and a RTT I found the rear was sitting lower then the front and didn't handle the trails very well. The truck would rock on and off the road and felt very squishy. I have a ton of house projects this summer so most of my "fun money" needed to be diverted to the house, I needed a cheap solution.

My solution to my spring problem came from a set of second gen springs. I would use the stock leaves from my 1st gen and add 2 more leaves lower in the pack. I cut the 2 leaves from the 2nd gen pack in the same taper as the 1st gen. They all had a similar arch, the 2nd gen was slightly more so it was very easy to assemble on the center pin. I decided that because of the way i use my truck, I needed an overload. I used the 2nd gen overload as it was flatter and could help prevent axle wrap a little better because it was flatter then the 1st gen. The 2nd gen overload also has another spring guide to keep all the leaves in-line.

I towed my 18' RV this last weekend and they felt great. The truck sags about 1.5" without the load bars attached. I need to wheel unloaded and then loaded to make a final decision but for now, they are great.

Shackle angle and arch look really good.

Curious to as to your thoughs and to see what happens to all that Toyota steel. I know Eric and I were purposely trying to avoid it.

It was a freebie, beggars can't be choosers. I'm worried that the 2nd gen leaves will crack because the are the "recall springs". If they do crack, I should have enough fun money to purchase a better set.

You gonna try to put friction pads in between those 2 leaves or is it not worth it? It looked good on the highway from my rear view mirror on Sunday.

Not worth the hassle for me. Yes, they might hit a rock on occasion, that just means I took a bad line.

No, it is next to impossible to drill through spring steel. Otherwise, I would think about it. I'll just slap some grease in there every oil change. I would have this time but I was letting some paint dry on the ends.

Grease will work. Although I thought I saw some friction plates somewhere that stick on.

No friction plates on my bastard pack.
Haven't had any problems or squeaking so far.

    Glad they're working for you!
I too will be interested to see how the Toyota steel holds up or if they'll sag over time.

Yeah, I understand. Was happy to get the Chevy leaves I did at the pick and pull for $45.

Relocating the shocks it a bit of a hassle on the first gens. Doesn't make much sense to do a u bolt flip and use the stock upper mounting locations either IMO.

I purposely threw my plastic 'friction pads' away when I built my springs. Don't think they help at all. I did bevel the ends of each spring though.

So, my expo status is lacking. The Tacoma needs more to earn a EAF sticker. Being on a budget I've decided to order.....

    http://www.amazon.com/Snorkel-Intak...sbs_263_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=1SP0D93KJQ55YVXM26TR

It fits but does have some issues, but it is cheap. The people running them say the intake tube that connects the snorkel to the intake will suck closed. I'm sure I can find a cheap fix for it.

No worries, I'll save my pennies for a real one on the 4runner. ARB says they will have one for it this next year.

Super curious to see how that turns out. I always wanted a snorkel but will never be able to justify the price tag of an ARB. Also, I like the look of this one better that runs down the fender a bit.
