San Carlos is beautiful. Was there for a wedding a couple years ago.

 

I use to dive there when I was a kid, it was just a small fishing village back then.

My parents park their boat there for the summers. It's a hurricane shelter, so they know it will be safe. There is a bus to Phx, but it is a 12 hr ride. Where it will take me only 8 to get there and it will be a much more comfortable ride for them coming back. The road down is better than most in the US. That area is also a "US Safe Zone", so they don't mess with us, just wave us on through all the check points.

When we drove we crossed in Nogales drove down to Hermosillo then over to San Carlos. The high ways weren't bad and we had no issues on any check point. I noticed when I was there it seemed to be more of a Mexican vacation spot not an American vacation spot. It was nice.

 

I work in Nogales and everyone tells me that I need to go to San Carlos. Just not sure how I feel about driving so far into Mexico without being able to speak the language.

 

Anyone know if people still can go shooting down by four peaks still? Been there recently?

 

As long as there are no fire restrictions you should be able to shoot.

Wasn't an issue for us, but the only time we stopped in Mexico other than our destination in San Carlos was a gas station in Hermosillo and they happen to speak English.

 

Lots of people speak enough English to help. They know the value of the dollar.

SC use to be a major U.S. Vacation spot until the state dept issued they travel warning for Mexico in 2008(?). Then it went down hill.

Not a bad drive and good and cheap vacation. Especially if you dive!

Understood, it is a bit to travel for a full day install but we'll worth the detail and care that he puts into his work.

 

I'm driving out to Tucson for sliders. Not that far. And if you ask @snowtank he'll tell you Tucson is just a block away from anywhere in the lower 48 states. That fucker drives all over the place.
