Cb antenna mounting spot

trying to look for cb antenna mounting options. I have a bed cover so it would be outside of the bed. Saw a bamf mount but could not find it again. Anybody have a link? Or other suggestions?

I was looking at this too because I have a shell and would rather it now be on my bumper or windshield.

It's strong. I can hit 75mph+ with a 4' antenna and the mount not bend.

Did this require drilling or used factory mounting holes?

 

Both factory and drill. I believe it was just one hole I had to drill. The mount is also tucked back under part of the metal. I did the drilling for piece of mind, along with grade 8 bolts . I haven't noticed any rust around the area where I drilled.

My only complaint is it can be a pain when trying to wax that small area behind the mount.

 

Kind of made mine like a BAMF mount, uses factory holes/bolts. Pretty stable at highway speeds with no spring. Used electrical tape to ensure my paint doesnt get messed up from opening/closing the tailgate.

 

Don't judge me for the paint job on the bracket, I have no patience and didn't let the paint dry enough before i mounted it.

 

I crafted a bracket for my magnetic mount antenna. I crafted a metal bracket - an inverted "L" shape, bolted to the bed rail. It sits just below the material on my soft cover and my magnetic antenna just "sticks" to it. I know it is good up to 65mph. SWR readings are 2.8 on channels 1 and 40 where mounted in the pic. On the roof, readings are 1.2 on channels 1 and 19.

C.B. performance is significantly better with the roof mounted option and antenna is secure up to 80mph

Mag mount on roof is the best mounting area.

 

Until someone takes it off the wrong way. And leaves some nice, long scratches as it drags along.

Ask how I know.

 

I put some 3m clear film between all my mag mounts and roof of truck . Been good since 2011.

I did manage to get out the scratches on the roof. I fight a constant battle with scratches every few months. The 8 hours I spend working on polishing and waxing the truck is worth the fun I had getting them on there.

 

Mounted to a bracket on the Lightbar up front..

 

I used the Relentless hood mount.





But to those that are using the taillight location mounts that have shells. Do they interfere with the opening of your rear window?

 

This is my plan. I'm running a mag mount on the roof - only put it up there when I'm using it.

Any negatives to this setup?

 

The space below the mount is a bit shallow so I used a Firestick antenna and cable. The cable has what is called a FireRing termination on it making it fit easily. Other antennas and cables might not be as easy to deal with in that position. I have the Flippac camper so I made certain to add the spring to mine which allows the antenna to be moved to the side when the camper lid is open. However, as I'm kind of a nut for a clean windshield and having it allows me to move the antenna back and prop the passenger side wiper up. I would have added the spring to accommodate this after the first windshield washing had I not installed it already.

I bought the mounts for both sides and while I have them both installed I've yet to add anything to the driver side mount. Thinking about a either a 2 meter antenna or a puck type GPS antenna.
