Need new truck with 8 feet bed, can you suggest any?

I'm thinking of buying my pops a new single cab, 8 feet bed truck. So taco is out BUT can you suggest any other trucks that are basic and full size bed? Thank you.

That depends on what you consider basic.
4x4 or 4x2, Auto or Manual, Power or Manual windows door locks mirrors etc., towing and normal payloads, and new or used to name a few.

 

Basic new: 2014, 2015. 2 wheel drive, manual everything. If they dont make manual then automatic will do. No towing package. I'm hoping with a cap to be at $25K.

 

You will probably get about 10x more opinions than actual options available on the market, because everyone on here has had their own experience with different trucks.
Biased I would say get a Tundra, just because it is a Toyota. Unbiased, just looking at facts (cost of ownership, reliability etc. based on real data) you can go either Ford F-150 or Chevy Silverado. Both have a proven track record of being fairly reliable, with Ford a little ahead of Chevy (not my opinion - various available data). RAM is a nice looking truck, but the history does not support the reliability requirement. Apparently they have done a lot lately to improve quality, but I have not seen any unbiased data supporting it.
For your budget you will have to stay pretty basic. Just look around and see what you can get for that budget, test drive and compare. That will help you make a decision based on what you like (touchy feely side of the decision). It is important to have something that sits comfortably, steer the way you like it to be, brakes that feel responsive etc..., and those requirements differ from person to person. Since it will be your dad's truck, get his input on what he likes.
Actual reliability will then be a shot in the dark; other than looking at historical data, there is no way to say what will be a good buy or not.

My recommendation would be the F-150, simply due to reliability, GM fiddles too much with the engines. Dodge has rust and transmission issues. It may be near impossible to find a base Tundra under $25k.

Chevy is offering crazy deals and incentives right now. If you can't find a Tundra that fits your needs, my 2nd would be the chevy due yo all the deals.ford and dodge have made pretty significant redesigns so less offers than the chevy.

I've never been a fan of Chrysler products, not sure how they are doing now that Fiat owns them though.

My family has always owned either Ford or Chevy. Once I can afford a new truck (man they're getting expensive) I'll be getting a F150 more than likely.

I just "built" a 2015 F150, Chevy 1500, and a Ram 1500 online for you. All of them were single cab with 8' bed and as basic as they come, and they all came out to about $26k. Hope this helps.

 

I vote for Chevy, but would have to look into the new 1/2 diesel Ram is offering if I was looking into a bare bones 4x2.

 

Can you still get a vehicle today with no A/C?

 

Not that I was able to build online.
