Alright gentlemen... A couple of years ago, I put some beefy off-road Bilsteins (not stock replacements) on my '05 PreRunner. They are very stiff and I've hated them ever since I put them on. I guess I thought that, since they are meant for off-road use, they'd handle my crappy local roads. Not so much...

What shocks can you guys recommend for a nice comfy ride? This thing is rarely off-road, and if I do go off the beaten path, it's babied. I would just like a ride that won't beat the hell out of my baby every day, because these shocks do just that.

Thanks in advance for any insight!

Which bilsteins do you have? The stock suspension is very soft, at least my 07 sport was. I'd look for a used Trd sport suspension...unless you want lift.

If you can find them get some original old man emu nitrochargers, great controlled ride but not as stiff as the 5100's.

Hmm... Looking at the order, because I couldn't recall off hand (from 2011), they are 5100 series. I don't even remember how the stock shocks felt honestly. I just replaced them as my local roads destroyed them. I was going to just put a set of stockers back on, but figured there may be more modern shocks that are better.

Do you know if the 5100s are currently set up to provide lift? Because I've read that it stiffens the ride quite a bit.

That's a good question. It's been so long, I'm not sure. I'll have to take a look. Just looking at the truck, they don't look to be set up for lift (it sits lower than I remember stock).

Might be a silly suggestion, but check your tire pressure. Do you know what it's at?

It sits at an even 30 psi. Every week, it never changes LOL.

Oh damn, well then that's not it. I guess I'd look into finding some used stock shocks.

That's kind of what I'm leaning towards.

I don't know if springs rates and valving is different, but I took the stock suspension off of my 2015 (double cab long bed 4x4) with about 1000 miles on it. Coilovers complete and still intact. No idea what they're worth.

Yup. Can't believe how soft they are. Wheelers carries the original nitrochargers.

Thanks for the info. The more I look around, they seem to be well regarded.
