I suspect with the new flexi-grip handles we'll have more torque.

Okay guys, thanks for the responses, I didn't quote them because it's a lot and I really have just one respose to it all. I'm just trying to learn more about how it works, I have no intent to tow or haul above spec. I dont even have oil or trans coolers!

But for the sake of curiousity, is it not possible to swap a tundra axle and bearing assembly into a Tacoma? I understand how crazy it sounds. But the idea of a Tacoma that can haul and tow a little closer to full size territory is pretty cool. Not to mention that would help for those running oversized tires or doubling their horsepower with mods? If the answer is theoretical that's fine, I'd just like to know. Although I do wish that for the price and (nearly) mpg of a full size, the Tacoma could do a little more. Not that I even have the intent of utilizing it so it wouldn't much matter!

Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

    All of the above....and more.

We used to tow 6500#'s with a 4.7L V8 Grand Cherokee. Same towing capacity as the Tacoma (6,500's), similar overall size, similar overall total weight/GVWR. etc.
The thing struggled going up long hills. It was a 'white knuckle' ride going downhills on the highway.

We ended up buying a 5.7L V8 Dodge Ram. Had 10,000lb towing capacity, much bigger in size, overall weight, axles, brakes, frame, etc. This thing towed that exact same 6,500lb load like a dream. Like it wasn't even back there......

You're far better off buying a fullsize truck for safety, integrity, and driving experience.

Yes full size for more weight. Common sense.

You can swap all sorts of things onto a tacoma. Chances are....it's been done before. Search "Solid Axle Swap Tacoma" on google and you'll find soooo many hits. Lots of guys on this forum have done it. But its not for towing - its for offroading & rock crawling in I'd say 99.9% of the cases.

Two totally different schools of thought and two totally different purposes.

The guys who put bigger/better axles under their trucks - most likely - never tow with them. The axles give them stronger axles & bigger better brakes. I swapped a pair of Dana 44 axles under a Jeep Wrangler. Hell...I still busted a rear axle shaft and went with Chromoly upgrade.

In fact..... Guys who end up doing solid axle swaps, sometimes end up buying a fullsize rig & trailer to tow the tacoma to the trails!

On another note, Toyota did make a 1 Ton mini truck...didn't do very well in the American market, hence why the Tacoma is more or less a recreational vehicle now, and we don't have very many variances of that platform.

Dually grate side is cool. Brake servicing was a bitch.
I can still picture the regular truck one ton, with its big ass gas tank, and its big ass up in the air---kinda like that chick riding the Vibrata Segway.
