The shipping could be the thing that kills the idea. These beds weigh ~20 lbs. Yesterday we examined the design and checked material options at Depot to try to bring the total weight down without sacrificing the strength of it. Thinking we might have found a better way. Would be awesome if this idea takes off and we're able to keep the shipping cost down too!

That's a good idea, although we never work with anything but wood really, so we are fairly clueless about build with other materials. Wood is pretty forgiving if you make a mistake - it's fairly cheap, and it's amazing what sanding can do to disguise imperfections!!

 

Sunday night Ribeye,,just because it needed to be relived.

$5.25 lb on sale at our local Cash and Carry restaurant outlet. This is usually around $9 per lb at Safeway, even with your club card discount. I buy 2-3 15lb chubs and cut my own steaks when it is this low for top grade Ribeye. Nom! Nom!

Guess what guys? Neighbor wants to pay me to detail his truck!! He was so impressed with what I did with our Civic and the Taco that he wants my help!! He has family visiting soon so he wants to spiff it up to look new again. That's happening tomorrow morning. Thinking MAYBE that would be a good time to finish up on the topper, since I'll be out there in that mode anyway, with all the supplies out already. But lesson learned, not promising anything til I actually do it

 

I went for a 10 mile hike on Saturday in the 80-90 degree heat cause the trip to the mountains fell through.

I pressure washed cedar siding before painting, that's what you want to do. Start with the pressure washer about 1 foot from the shingles and only move it as close as needed to remove dirt and damaged paint. The closer you hold it the higher the pressure and it can eat away wood.

 

If you decide to go with aluminum you can probably get it somewhere else at much lower cost. That's been my experience in the Seattle area.

 

Thanks for the advice cosmic!! That's exactly what I wondered about - how much pressure to apply. I tend to get carried away with that thing because it is so much fun, but the last thing I wanna do is blast the siding so hard that we are looking at bigger repairs than just painting. I'll start ~1' out from the siding and see how it goes. I'm hoping it will be easy to see the instant difference in what a "cleaned" shingle looks like compared to one that hasn't been, so I can easily keep track of where I'm at and how aggressive to be......

Right before our appraisal, I wanted to touch up a couple of exterior paint areas. But we were somewhat pressed for time because we were still in the midst of the Taco stuff then. Plus I didn't really know what I was doing. So I just tore away any paint that was peeling, then painted. Did not clean first. Yeah, the end result is a checkerboard look on that side of the house - some dark blue shingles (old paint) and some light blue shingles ("touch up" painted). Ah well, appraiser must not have noticed, that's all that matters

At least now I will go back and do it right, or at least attempt to

 

How much pressure is your pressure washer?

We had to touch up areas on a house, took in a sample and got paint mixed to match at Dunn Lumber. The touched up areas are indistinguishable from the old paint.

We sold the house so if it doesn't look the same in a few years we won't know.

 

It has 4 tips that each have different levels of pressure. I almost always use the highest pressure one, then just adjust how close I get to whatever I'm washing. That thing is so satisfying : )

 

Yes I know the satisfaction of pressure washing.

I have a wet sandblasting attachment for mine, that's really satisfying.

 

Whoa, never heard of that!! Must try this ASAP. What do you use that attachment for? Give me some examples please, I want to justify getting that and trying it!! : )

 

I used the wet sandblaster on some wheels and trailer parts and rusty fence posts.

What do you have that's rusty?

@Wyoming09 , yes, she prefers the dog bed to her human bed. That's how nice our dog beds are!

Mobile bake shop. Still in mind, but may not happen for many years. I want to build a separate building in our backyard that houses my own bakery kitchen. You can get a license to bake at home and sell your stuff in Oregon if you follow 5 billion rules and requirements, and one of them is no dogs in the building where the baking happens. So you can have a separate building on your property for baking, as long as the dog never goes in there. Thinking we could build a combo garage/apartment thing with a really sweet kitchen. Then it's a more private way for guests to stay over, plus then I can sell baked goods!!!

Have fun you guys, and don't forget to keep your doggies safe. They hate the loud noise of fireworks, so lots get super scared, slip away from their owners, and get lost as a result, or worse. Make sure it doesn't happen to your 4 legged kid!! Poor Dolly hates them bad. We'll be cranking up TV or music and staying in to keep an eye on her.

We are also planning a separate, disconnected, commercial kitchen building in our backyard. It will be dug into a hillside with the bottom a combination storm shelter, root cellar and potting shed with a commercial kitchen upstairs, set up mainly to brew beer and can. To build to requirements from the start isn't too bad, but to retrofit an existing structure can be very costly.

How was everyone's 4th? Any of this happen? Nah, not my TW buddies, right?

BUNCH OF BLAH BLAH:
We just got back from an eastern Oregon trip. Good time for sure!! HOT! And SUNNY! And beautiful as always. Did our goat hike, but those super cute dudes were way the heck up on the cliffs, to where you could barely see them this time, and couldn't really get worthwhile photos either. Last year they pretty much walked right up to us! I think the goats were freaked out by a camper's dog - he kept barking at them and he was kinda a big guy. I wonder if when they see a dog barking at them and running around if they are thinking "wolf". Still a great time and a beautiful hike - long sections of the hike are through these big beautiful open meadows of wildflowers everywhere you look, like something you see in a movie. Just incredible. Bummer we couldn't get closer to the goats, but will make it even more exciting next time we do get closer.

Ate soooooo much good food. Favorite steakhouse , new favorite mexican restaurant , new favorite pizza place, and lots and lots of yummy snacks and beverages

Tried to do a short hike with Dolly to a small alpine lake, but the trail was too challenging for her (fine, fine - that's my convenient excuse for too challenging for me - JK!) It was just too damn hot out there, she was burning the bottoms of her little paws walking on the rocky areas. So we got the hell outta there, took her back to hang out in some nice cool AC, and found that mexican place (damn near burned our faces off with the salsa - I love it!! ) The road to that lake hike was pretty knarly in some places. We'd planned to drive further up the road, but then we saw another Taco parked just before a real knarly section, so we thought we'd play it safe and park in the same area.


ROTOR QUESTIONS/ADVICE:
Then coming down that road, the brakes seemed like they were pulsating a bit. Eric thought it sounded like the rotors were warping. It was so hot over there, and we had to lay on the brakes for long periods coming down, down, down those windy mt. roads. Taco was a real trooper!! He's gonna pull the rotors off this weekend (or sooner, pending how the week goes) and investigate. He said it's like $20 each to have them machined (if they are not too far gone, I think he said he has a micrometer to check?), or he thought it was $100 to buy a new set of 2. Does that all sound about right to you all, TW? Even though we never had any issues other than the pulsating when we really had to brake hard/a lot, I don't think I'll drive it til he looks into it. Errands can wait, driving with brake concerns is not worth it to me.

Any advice on machining vs. replacing, or best brand to replace with? Really any advice on rotors at all is appreciated. Have a happy Monday TW!!!
