Vehicle Holster for Handgun?

Ive seen a couple posts on the site about a holster in the center console. Just wondering what anyone here has done to mount/carry a handgun holster in their vehicle. I have a CCW permit for out of state travel, so Im looking for a solution. I have a few ideas but was hoping your input would help. Any ideas or pics would be great. Thanks guys!

CCW Weapon Mount

I wanted a secure mount for my Glock 22 (.40cal) in the vehicle. I used a holster I had laying around a Black Hawk Serpa, I adapted it for the vehicle by mounting to the rear of the center consol. You see the thread on it here. :http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forum...?highlight=ccw

I don't really have an official "mount" but every pistol I've got seems to fit pretty well in the door of my truck. Might get a few looks at the gas station when the door flys open but, in all honesty I haven't my pistol budge a bit, and I was doing quite a bit of driving/wheelin/road huntin this past week.

 

I too suggest starting with a BlackHawk Serpa, although I also suggest investing in a Serpa quick disconnect kit.

I intend to fasten one of the female connectors to the inside of my center console which will locate the firearm in a good draw positioning (once the center console lid is popped open). I'll post pics when I finish the job. I have the equipment but haven't completed yet. I'd like to locate it such that an HK P30 and XD Tactical 45 would fit (in the console with the lid closed) but the XD is at my father's house (in a more secure safe). The other female connector is currently in a maxpedition bag.

 

I used to have a Kingston car/truck seat holster by Desanti. It worked pretty well but I chosse not to install it in my Tacoma. I just carry on my person.

 

when I carry, I carry on my person or leave it in the console next to me. I don't like the seat holsters...

Thanks for all the info guys. I like to keep my firearms concealed, so keeping it in the door doesnt work for me. I think I might try the blackhawk quick disconnect. Ill keep you updated on what I do. Thanks again for all the info.

 

Sup yall. Been lurking and learning for a long time, but never felt I had anything to contribute until now. I tried my hand at molding kydex and made a holster for my center console. It's flat on one side so as to be attached to the inside panel of the console. It holds a Sig Sauer SP2022 and an insight M6X weapon light. I'm a short dude, so with my seat so far forward, it's tough to draw the weapon straight back along it's bore axis. So I designed the holster to release the gun from the top and it works quite well. I didn't plan for it, but the holster actually turns on the light when the gun is drawn - pretty sweet bonus. Check it:

Anyway, if you've ever thought about doing something like this, I say go for it. It was much easier than I had imagined. Kydex is very forgiving stuff. You can work it and rework it and if you fubar it, just give it enough heat and it will go back almost all the way to it's original (flat) position. I didn't cast a plug of the gun, I actually molded the kydex right to the Sig itself. No surface damage of any kind. I first popped it into the oven to get it just soft enough to wrap around the gun, then I hit the parts I wanted molded tightly with a heat gun. After that I quickly clamped it down under a couple layers of some heavy foam-rubber floormat scraps and plywood I had laying around. Let cool, trim, add 3M tape and you're done. 2 other points of detail: I made a small insert for the trigger guard so the kydex wouldn't sink in and touch the trigger. Also, after I trimmed it, I reheated just the spine (bottom) of the holster and bent it slightly more closed so it would give a little tighter grip. If you have all the tools and supplies, you can make one for 3 bucks. The 6x9 sheets on ebay are just big enough for this set up and you can get 8 shipped for $22.50.

 

Thats the best holster mount I have seen. I just stick my 45 under my butt. Do you think a AR will mount like that?

 

an AR in the center console? Oh, absolutely. But you might need to collapse the stock a notch or 2.

 

Just curious but do you guys live in states where you can't carry into certain places? In Rhode Island there are no restrictions on where you can carry other than the post office and any other federal buildings. I find myself stuffing the gun under the seat when I need to mail a package. Makes me wish the glove box locked.

 

im in a 1st gen and have been looking for a lock box for under my seat but there isnt shit for room down there so im having a hard time finding one. i dont want to just leave it in the center console (top or bottom compartment.)

 

Check your state statues before doing this. In Fl gun must be in a secure container or in snap holster- both out of sight. F.S. 790

I'm ALL for the good guy's arming them selves. Just do it by the book in case you have to defend your self you won't get hemmed up.

 

I like the seat pocket behind the passenger seat. The pistol is concealed and very handy. It is like it was made for it or a lb of beef jerky. If I'm on the road alone I scoot the passenger seat forward a little for better access.

 

I carry my .380 ruger lcp in my center console at all times. When I go to the city (St. Louis) I usually carry my Kimber Covert .45.

In ohio the gun needs to be on you consealed or in a closed container in plain sight. If you are stopped you need to declair that you have a CCW and that you have a gun... If you touch it you are commiting a felony. You can NOT touch it. You must wait for instructions from the officer. Center console is considered a closed container in plain sight. That is where I keep my Glock 17 while driving. I keep my license and ccw in a id wallet that has 2 clear windows in the pocket on the sunvisor. That way both hands are in view of the officer.
