    Wow! 18KW?

    That's over 24 horsepower!

Does it have a pull rope or a kickstarter?

No sweat bud. Once you get to be 60 you just automatically judge everybody without thinking, because your joints hurt so much you quit giving a crap about what anybody younger feels.

Believe it or not, i feel your pain. A few deployments in the sand box really does a number to the body.

    Old sports injuries here...

Anyhow, what about that 18KW amplifier? Is that a typo? Or real?

There was 3 6,000 watt amps stuffed in the trunk where the spare tire would go.

Where did you put the 9 batteries (at least) that you would need for a setup like that?

4 batteries won't hold 18kw clamped power. Id say you'd need at least a group 31 Agm with 100ah reserve x 6. Each 100ah per 3kw roughly. What 6kw amps do you have. Lastly, also remember clamped real world power is totally different than spec power

I believe they were hifonix 6000.1 monoblocks. The 2 mechmans were 270 amps a piece plus the upgraded stock 250 amp alternator and the batteries were 2500-3000 max amps a piece if I remember correctly

I never had a problem with the setup besides losing my back seat.

its not a matter of having an issue,
Its a matter of getting Full power out of your setup, let alone imp rise.
So for example: to be basic about it, you wire your amp at .5 ohms, if you have a 2x imp rise your amp will see a 1 ohm load and make power = to that load. if your wired at 1ohm and you have a 2 ohm rise you will see power related to a 2 ohm load so your 6kw mono block will basically only clamp around 3kw then @ 100% efficiency so subtract say 20% for loss and then you have much less power than you think.

some of my friends run big 12kw amps and after rise only clamp 7kw out of each amp.... just how it is

I came from the hot rod days. We built the cars and the music was just another accessory. I'm an audiophile but I got out of fancy stereos before the time things went nuts (the 90's).

Anyhow, I'd sure be amazed by a mobile system that will spec 18KW RMS from 20~20khz @ 0.05% THD

Pretty tough with 8 ohm speakers, but I'm amazed at these 1 & 2 ohm speakers too. They must have like 12 Ga voice coils!

I'm simplifying this but 18000 watts RMS is approx 24 horsepower. You need a Honda 250 engine running 10,000 rpm to make that much power. that's like the power of 30 car batteries.

The thing about audio systems is that the big power comes in spurts, so you can power such a system for a limited time with 3 batteries that only make 150 amp hours or 1.8 kwh if they can deliver 18 KW briefly.

But a 1.8 kwh battery system could only deliver 18 KW for about 6 minutes, and as the voltage drops, clipping will increase. You gotta start the engine & charge 'em to keep going.

Now I remember why I don't build big car stereos. ;)

Generally, i build my electrical to never drop below 12.5v.
Usually clamp tests are done on burps at a your burp freq to determine the amount of real world power you get from your setup. Bass race and demo vehicles essentially need as much reserve and charging capacity to keep voltage stable. My burp volume was set at 29 on my deck and 30 was a soft clip. For demo and bass race was at around 24 volume.

I will post some results from my friend who has my exact setup now as he progresses with his install. He has the potential to have 24kw but right now only clamping 13kw due to various elements( and not electrical based )

    24KW?

Just hide an extra Fiat engine in the trunk to run the generator.

i have thought in the past to run a hydro system running a stack of alts lol but thats only if i had a pure Low note monster, i.e doing 160+ db at 20hz but the big audio dreams are done for the taco. The taco didn't like big spl, not only did it not like it but was also much harder to get loud that any of my other rides.

doing in the 150+ db Sealed(means all doors, windows etc are shut) - meter on the dash according to db drag regulation in the taco is pretty hard.

That noise you just heard was my head exploding...

They're light duty trucks! Put a 24 HP vibrator on one and you'll shake the parts right off of it.
