Is this an issue or not. I bought my truck a few months ago with 88k on it and I had the tranny fluid flushed, before I found TW btw, and after finding TW I've been reading these post and found out they put dexronIII in my truck and was suppose to have T-IV, so I took it back and they said I was right and replaced it. But, the whole reason I took it in was because on the first shift pattern series it doesn't want to shift from 2nd to 3rd like I think it should. It raps up to about 2800 before shifting and that is just taking it easy like driving in a residential area. Now, after that first series it shifts perfect. Until the truck sits for like 8 hours like when I leave work then that first shift series it does it again. My real issue is I think its affecting my fuel mileage. Cuz going only 30 or so it stays rapped up. But like I said its only that first shift series after the truck sits awhile. So what do I do.

    thanks

So the truck is 'cold' when it raps up?

After driving the truck for a bit and warms up - does it eventually smooth out?

Are you experiencing cold weather? It'll take longer for things to warm up....

Well lets see, I guess the oil temps would be cool, but outside temp doesn't change it. I live the the midwest and I park in the garage. I leave for work with temps anywhere right now anyway around 40 to 50 degrees and it does it the first time the tranny goes threw the gears. Like just driving threw the neighborhood to get to the main road. Thats hitting a stop sign and then a stop light, never really getting over 25 or 30. Then once it finally shifts evertime after it shifts perfect. Like if I run into a store for a bit and come back out it shifts fine. But like when I leave work it mite be 60 or 70 out and it does it again but after the first series of shifts it does perfect again. Am I making any sense? This surely has to be affecting my mpg I would think. I hear guys say they try to keep the rpm's under 2k while accelerating, and when the truck warms up I can achieve that. Any more thots? I appreciate the input.

Don't let a shifty tranny in your truck, Eddie Murphy can tell you about that.

Seriously though, if they acknowledge the mistake in fluids, work with them to diagnose the transmission, maybe they should fix it. Sorta sounds like one of those valves gets stuck.

Well thats what I'm fearing it mite be. It was doing that when I got the truck tho thats why I thot it needed to be changed. Its got 92k on it and the guy didn't run the truck hard or pull anything so I was wondering if its even an issue. I also was contemplating putting some Lucas tranny additive in it to see if that would help. Or trying the sea foam tranny flush stuff and putting new fluid in, idk mite just be me worrying too much.

The transmission works better when its 'warmed up' and that's including the OIL temp & viscosity. Everytime you start off, the tranny needs time to 'warm up' and the shifts might be 'harder' than normal at first. I know mine are....

That's why a lot of folks switch to synthetic oils because they tend to work better to prevent those hard shifts.

I'm not saying you should put synthetics in - but if you're gonna change your oil again...then I'd definately consider it.

Not to mention, if this is the first time you've had a tranny flush in 92k miles - then the tranny probably needs to 'settle in'. Perhaps if you give it some time, it'll start shifting better for you.

I think you might be right, I think this am it shifted better. I'm starting to think maybe the guy that had it before me might of had it changed and had the wrong fluid in it aswell. I guess I'll give it the rest of this week and see what it does and report back next week. Thanks guys for the responses.

Well just reporting back that the correct tranny fluid hasnt changed the way the truck shifts. I think I'm gonna put in some Lucas tranny additive and see if a few days of running it that way changes anything, if not I guess I just keep hoping it is normal and hope it doesnt go out.
