Unfortunately for you, they're also trained to attack that which they fear.

I have a cousin who lived in MA; he and his wife found out they were going to have kids, and within 6 months had bought a house in Maine.

Last night, I was out mowing the lawn and I ran over a nest in the ground. This little guy crawled out. There were 2 others still in the hole. (In case you can't tell from the picture, it's a baby rabbit. Can't be more than a few days old, eyes were still shut)

I kept putting him back down the rabbit hole, stubborn bastard kept crawling out! He eventually stayed in there, I hope they all make it.

poor thing!! i'm really familiar with how to handle this thanks to my dog massacring 3 nests last summer. so put them back and cover them with string in a geometric pattern, mom will come to feed middle of the night/early am. if you wake up tomorrow and she hasn't come back then you need to put them in a box with a warm water bottle and take them to a wildlife rescue

Just ran out to the RI spot for an extended lunch/to check on my project over there. The Transmission line is all graded and has a nice flat trap rock road from where you come out onto it if coming in from Jackson Schoolhouse rd, and continuing on to the CT border. The section of whoops and powerline hill climb are gone, otherwise everything else is obviously the same. The FJ is pretty fun, the width will take a little getting used to otherwise it's pretty awesome.

Went up the T-line to the top of what used to be the powerline rock climb, took a right to take the trail though the woods to the sand pit, then back down the gas line to the powerlines and tothem back to the road. Had a few guys from my office with me, they were freaking out at that little climb on the gas line just before the sand pit since you get pretty off camber going up the right hand path there.

I'll check them tonight when I get home. How do I tell if mom came back? I covered the hole with straw.

if you put string or twigs in a pattern that you'll remember (like a grid or something) and in the morning it's still in tact then you know she didn't come back. if that's the case at their age they won't make it much longer without a feeding so you gotta take them in

    i took mine here:
    http://www.osvs.net/

they keep them warm there until the people come to pick up injured wildlife. i don't remember how but i got the contact info to the woman who took care of mine and she gave me updates on their recovery which was pretty cool

Thanks. There is a lady who runs a rabbit rescue down the road. If it looks like mom didn't come back, I might be able to take them to her also. You're right though, at that age, if mom didn't come back this morning they might not have made it through the day.
