Just wondering if anyone knows any possibilities as to why my cab was repainted?? I recently purchased my truck just over a week ago, and washed it for the first time since new. and really got into looking at it, and realized my cab has been repainted..doesn't look like any bondo and their is some hail damage on the roof...just curious what anyones thoughts are.
    Thanks...

when i had my altima the driver side rear quarter panel was repainted, when i took it to carmax (douche bags) to have it appraised to trade in, they told me that sometimes during shipment of vehicles the vehicle may get scratched, so the dealer will have it repainted...usually its just that certain section, they usually keep it to a whole peice though

Uhhh...It's an '05...so the possibilities are endless.

The last guy didn't tell you about an accident- so it may have replaced panels and repainted the whole thing. Could have painted over trail damage or wear....

Waste of money IMO. I don't know how incidents get reported to them but issues with vehicles that I have had in the past going through normal channels (insurance/dealer) never was listed on Carfax.

Gray wire, Some lights in the bed area, and some character marks throughout.
x2 If you just buy the parts and fix it yourself and don't report it (because some fixes are cheaper than a $500 deductable) to your insurance company, it is never upchanneled.

You can check each panel to see if it has your Toyota vin taped on it, that would mean it is the original factory panel. If they didn't change the factory panels and you say you see no evidence of bondo then it can't be anything serious and I wouldn't really worry about it.

Exactly...I use to work at the port in Boston that imported VWs and Audis. Cars get damaged all the time during shipping plus defects from the factory paint jobs. Our body shop would fix them before the dealers even got 'em.

yea, it has all matching vin tags and everything looks good. its a certified used truck, and it was a little cloudy the day i looked at it, and didnt notice it, but now that ive had it, after having a few issues, im beginning to check everything. You would think that they would do a better job painting it if it was a dealer paint job, its starting to chip off on the back of the cab above the windows, looks like they didnt even remove the window to paint it. It just seems really shady that they would do that kind of stuff, and i even asked them if it was repainted before i bought it. Either way, you really really have to look to notice any paint color differences. Thanks all!!!

x2 I got in a wreck with my Tacoma close to a year ago, and it still hasn't shown up on Carfax...it was repaired by a Toyota dealership, too.

As for repainting, my Matrix was repainted partially when I bought it due to shipment scratches. I later found out that the dealership paid a crappy paint shop down the street to do the work...

Heres the thing... I worked as a salesman a while ago and took a trade on a car that had every body panel messed jacked up.. Gave the guy like 3500 bucks for the car and put about 4k from our own body shop in it... ended up selling the car for around 13 to 15k if I remember right and it was a certified used. I think it was shady business.. but the new owners got all new body panels and a brand new paint job...

Moral of the story, even though its a dealership they are still shady at times. My best guess, the previous owner traded the car in damaged and took a hit..but didnt have to deal with insurance. Then in turn the dealership fixed the truck and sold it as certified with "no accidents" because it did not go through any insurance.

Exactly, i just spent 20k on it, mostly because its certified, and working at an acura dealership, when i think of certified, i think of a nearly new car, if this came in and i saw this it wouldnt have been certified. none of the panels look/sound bondo'd. i called the dealership and their going to look into it. I drove 140 miles round trip for this truck, i really dont want to drive it again......

I'm in the same boat, I just recently discovered that my truck has been hit, not to bad but the front passenger door and fender area is all messed up, i went to the body shop and was told that most likely it was backed into or something and it was resprayed horribly, my paint is coming off, plus my door is rubbing the fender so u can tell somethings wrong

My sis bought a new Jetta and it was damaged. The dealer didn't tell her and then she had a little accident and brought it to a shop and the guy at the shop told her that there had previously been work on it. She contacted the dealer and they knew, She mentioned a lawyer and she settled for a quite a decent amount.

She didn't even contact a lawyer she just threatened. On second thought I think she also might of mentioned giving the info to a local paper. Maybe that will give you an idea if they don't play nice. Good luck.
