doug thorley long tube headers question

ive never had any problems with heat.

 

Compared to the factory iron log headers (05-08) that is completely incorrect. Less restriction equals less heat. Compared to the stamped steel and angle headers of the 09+ , they should still be a little cooler. A laser temp gun would really be able to tell you, if someone setup a side by side experiment.

 

so exhaust system.... for sure going with the Doug Thorley long tubes,.....
the question I have is about the Y pipe and exhaust. I just want a good deep throaty sound. (no rice burner, nothing extremely load)...
what are best options?

 

Would it also pass smog? I always thought it wouldn't.

 

With DTLT's and the OEM Y-pipe, it will not pass smog.

 

Is it pretty easy to remove and put the stock headers back on to pass?

 

It is for me. If you use antiseize on the hardware. Takes about 30-45 minutes on a pre-air injection year model.

 

Make sure to use copper based antiseize. Otherwise with the silicone based, you run the risk of damaging your sensors.

 

In CA? You won't get past visual, so you'll never know if it would pass the sniffer.

In free states? Unless they take tail pipe readings you're fine. Even then you may be able to pass depending on the tune. It wasn't unheard of for catless Subarus to pass emissions if the tech "didn't see" headers, intake, turbos, etc. hahaha.

 

I think I'm gonna end up going with the short tube, just gonna cost a little more
