Best camping trip I ever took was when I canoed the Allagash Waterway after I graduated from High School. I spent two weeks living out of my canoe, catching my meals and camping on random islands and shorelines. Best two weeks ever. Some days I made 20 miles, some days I made 2.

Just so we're all clear here, I'm doing 35 miles in 5 days. 7 miles a day. I only want to hike half the day and then fish the second half at whatever river/stream/lake I'm camped near to. My wife will be reading her book in the hammock while I do that. We are going to take our time, stop for lots of pictures, and enjoy the scenery for this small leg of the entire JMT. Some other time, I'd like to do the entire length but it would take me 3 weeks to do it the way I want to.

    Agreed!

The beauty provided by and encountered along the JMT is something to take in, without a doubt. 7 miles a day is exactly what I would do, provides plenty of time to take in the experience and relax each day.

I'm looking forward to catching a couple trout each day to boost my protein intake and to add to my own personal entertainment.

This. Although, there area many pretty spots in between Lone Pine & Yosemite. For example, here is a secret spot I hiked to with my lady in late June ;)
Trout fished, went for a quick dip(glacier melt lakes over 10,000ft. are pretty cold), and sun bathed on a nice slab of granite.

My jetboil is over 10 years old. It works today as well as the day I bought it. Excellent buy. I'm sure you'll enjoy yours.

They're old REI mountain gaiters. I've got a mid gaiter and the mountain ones. I never wear the mids. I only wear the mountain ones no matter what terrain, desert, mountain, snow, fire, etc.

I have a set of those gaiters. I bought them for a trip I ended up not going on and have yet to use them lol. This coming season I will make it up north!

I like my Rocky Mountain Lows but been considering the Desert Gaiters or something by REI. Lighter weight and more breathable, pretty much just the same nylon as their Sahara pants. Not all that much protection from thorns or whatever, but keep the rocks out of my shoes and keep my feet from overheating.

Son of a bitch. What was the sale? I'm waiting for a 30% to roll around so I can get a new tent.

Love my Rocky Mountains when I'm in the nasty stuff. But, the lightweight tan REI short gaiters are great for when it's hot and I just need to keep the dust and small stuff out. My wife now borrows the REI lightweights.

Satoshi, debadged, rear view mirror bracket, tail gate hose clamps, trimmed mud flaps.
not sure when it will be, maybe in the fall, but many manufacturers have an end of season clearance sale to get rid of last years inventory. I scored an awesome Kelty Hula House for $200 (retailed for $400).
