It's my happy place. My mom grew up there and my grandparents moved there at a young age and taught at the schools all the way up. I've been there every month since I was born. My favorite place hands down.

Awesome. Sounds sorta like my Mt Tam place (where I got married, too), but more family-oriented.

So guys, thanks for all your various input on dealers and potential contacts over the past few weeks.

Here's what went down this weekend...

I inspected and did paperwork for this this today. 3 miles on the odo. 15 DCLB 4x SR5, tow package, entune + nav, 16-in alloys.

Over the last 48 hours I had been hitting the True Car service from Consumer Reports and figuring out locations and potential prices for trucks from the Bay Area to Tahoe. Drove about 150 miles yesterday to three dealers, test drove two trucks not quite my spec (Sport silver, and an SR5 in white, at Thompson's Placervillle and Magnussen Auburn) up in the Sierra Foothills so I could get a sense of how the perform on steep grades at speed and winding mountain roads, which I can't do down here. Went to the third dealer down near home (Maita), and they had sold the one truck in my spec that had been listed online. During that discussion at that dealer, I asked about trucks at other locations. Dealers will horse trade within the region and tack on another $500 for their troubles (fuck that), but I asked anyway for the intel. And he was dim enough to mention the dealership names. Santa Rosa (Freeman) was one. 2 hours from here in my old backyard stomping grounds near the coast. I got home and hammered that out online, and within another hour had one dialed in for $1000 below invoice, and it wasn't even on the lot yet. They just pulled it off the transport truck, and hadn't even had a chance to do their dealer inspection yet (can't until Monday), so it could not be test driven yet. Work is nuts this week, in Denver most of it, so I will go back down with the wife next Saturday, test drive as a formality/assurance, and ink the final paperwork and take delivery.

The Mod List, pretty much in this order:
Chicco KeyFit 30 infant seat with Latch system (I am considering a build thread titled: $30k Infant Seat Mod
Rear seat baby puke/shit protective mat, recommendations welcome
    DeeZee rubber bedmat
Cap of some sort, Leer or Snugtop, that's another homework project
Tailgate antitheft, right? Hose clamps or some shit like that? Or has this been resolved on later models?
    Tailgate reinforcement (right?)
    Rear diff breather
OME lift...eventually...but need to look into other possible mods related to weight.
    Tires
Homeroshi, once Craig commences with 2012+ fab
    Color match that rear bumper
    .....

    :cookiemonster:

    o_O

    :(

    :goingcrazy:

Edit: oh yeah, trim those front mudflaps. Jesus, they're like asphalt squeegees.

And oh yeah again, anyone interested in my 01? I'll be prepping it for sale shortly. Sigh. I really do not want to sell that truck...
150k miles, I am the second owner, bought it stock, copious service records, including from original owner and dealer service. OME 881s and Dakars, Hidden Hitch with marine grade 7-pin wiring, aux backup lights....blah blah blah. I'll do an official FS thread in the near future.

Seeing as though I was not included in that multiquote, I'll assume that I'm still good to go for my roof rack.

Iiiiiiiiiiiiii'm preeeeeeeeeeety sure I know how to do it correctly. I'm starting to think you LED about getting 10 roofracks. OR you're being VERY selfish and holding on to all 10 .

    @scocar
I love my Relentless tailgate protector and I recommend it for sure. Also, WeatherTech or similar for the floor protection in front/rear of cab. I don't believe the tailgate removal issue has been addressed by Toyota so you'll likely want to do a mod for that if that's a concern for you. Also, I hate my Salex organizers for the center console and glove compartment, but if they're appealing to you, of the two - I hate the glove compartment organizer the most. That one I really wouldn't bother with.

If I'm able to run down to Freeman on Saturday you're welcome to take a look at mine. If that doesn't work out, there's plenty of pics on here showing them off.

Thanks, yeah, Relentless sounds right. I've not been paygin close attention to 2nd gen probs because...well...1st gen probs.

I have Weathertechs inthe 01, I'll buy them again. Esepecially for the puke and shit and tippy cup factor.

I have since run across a tidbit on the Toyota spec site: removeable tailgate is a FEATURE! LOL. Fucking anything is removable with tools, you don't have to make it stealable.

Thanks for the org divider warning. I tend to be an organization nut, but I'll avoid those. I'll live with it for a while and see what I really want/need before fiddling wiht tweaks at that level. The same goes for houses, BTW...

Relentless seems to be the best piece, IMO. I have the aluminum version for the weight savings, since I planned to reinstall the OEM fiberglass piece back on top of the Relentless plate and didn't want my tailgate to weigh 70 pounds. It's fairly heavy with the aluminum and OEM pieces together, about or slightly more heavy than my fullsize GM tailgate was. Any heavier and Danielle would have issues with it, and without a tailgate strut to help slow the speed of a heavy, quick dropping tailgate. Sometimes I wonder if I should add one in the future, lest a little, curious hand end up pulling the tailgate handle and getting knocked out by the end result, but I have many years until then, and my kid should be smart enough not to do those things when they're that tall.

The organization of the Salex units isn't really that great, the compartments in the center console organizer don't run to the bottom of the center console floor, so if you have a Chapstick or Germ X or something like that, anything small, it can go anywhere in the organizer momentum carries it.

Which reminds me, I do recommend adding the Grid-It organizer to the center console door. It's $7 or something on Amazon and is one of the handiest things I've done for my organization.

Organizer for sure wouldn't fit inside a Console Vault, but you can cut it to fit pretty easily, it's just kinda crappy plastic.

Meh, I probably should. My console is so crammed with crap. It's always a surprise when I remember something I need in it and start digging and find like 5 things I thought were gone

Cool. Yeah, aluminum would be the ticket. I want to save weight anywhere I can especially with that and also for future possible sliders, etc.

I forgot to add Redline hoodstruts to my list, and I might get a tailgate strut, too, with that added weight.

When I was checking out the new truck, I went to lift the hood with one hand (unlatch and lift with single hand), and I was like, WTF, why is it so heavy? LOL. Derp.
