I thought without the texture, it wouldn't look right, but it blends right in with rest of the trim.

Thanks. I'm going to order it and send it back if I decide not to use it. I just ordered the radio from CF and they said they only carry the Metra dash-kit, so that's what's coming (free) with the radio. I should have the radio, according to the website on Tuesday. If I order the Scosche dash-kit today, I should have that on Wednesday. I sort of really like the texturing though.

Thanks again. I just ordered it. $24.99 with standard shipping. I should have that on Wednesday. I probably won't do the installation until Saturday anyway (if I can wait that long).

    No problem.

All the wiring was done between the stereo, the aftermarket wiring harness, and the factory wiring.

Bluetooth is wireless, and is what will connect your phone to the stereo. I don't have an IPod, but I assume it's a USB connection? If so, depending on the stereo, it will probably have a wire that the USB connected device will plug into. My stereo has this. I have yet to mount it. I will be picking up an aftermarket USB connector to mount to the spot beside my cig. lighter, to look as factory as I can get it.

BTW, what did you end up going with for stereo/harness?

I purchased this one. It's coming with the wiring harness I need. Apparently, I have to tap into the supplied radio harness, with this other harness I ordered, in order to keep the steering wheel functionality. They included those easy, wire-crimp things, so it shouldn't be too bad. I also order the iPod cable, just to be sure I had one that works. If it turns out that I don't need it, I'll return it.

That's a nice looking unit. Having that unit with all those new features will make your truck feel new again.

Thx. I was thinking that also. I'll file a report with pics once I get it installed.

Before I start the installation, there's no reason to disconnect the truck's battery is there? I can't imagine that I need to, since I'm only fooling with the radio harness and whatever I have to do for the steering wheel controls.

This thread helped me out a lot already, trying to figure out what I want to do about my Stock 05 Radio. Pretty much everything's a upgrade.

This is the Alpine head unit that I've constantly been falling back to:

    http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500W265BT/Alpine-CDE-W265BT.html?search=cde-w265bt&skipvs=T

If you don't need a touch screen, this one has the 4 volt preamp outputs and has superior BT performance compared to other brands. Other brands give you the touch screen, but require you to go up a few hundred dollars in price to get the 4 volt pre-amp. I had 5-volt back in the day...it was pretty nice only having to turn the amp gains about 1/16".

My order from CF arrived yesterday. The Scoche dash-kit should arrive today. I probably won't do the installation until the weekend, so in the meantime, I've been reading all the instructions.

I'm also trying to determine where I want to route the cables for my iPod and Android phone. I'm thinking about just feeding them into the glovebox.

Can anyone explain why the Scoche dash-kit on the right is darker than the Metra. Is it supposed to be that way or did they send me the wrong one.

It must just be the batch. Mine must have come from the same batch. It's slightly darker than the rest of my trim.

This is my truck. There is a noticeable difference in color if your looking for it, not enough of of a difference for it to bother me though.

Yea, but yours looks way lighter than mine does. I'm actually wondering if it will make the final installation look even better, having the darker color. I'll have to dry-fit it when I start. Worse case, I'll have to call for a replacement.
