1st oil change

09 double cab... what oil would you recommend for my first change?
synthetic or conventional?

I love Mobil 1 it's the only thing I will ever use in my vehicles.

 

Question - why the oversized vs regular filters.

 

I see no reason to go with the the high $$ synthetics. If regular dino oil was good enough for Toyota, that's what I'll continue to use. Were not talking about some high end performance motor here. My Viper came with Mobil1 from the factory which it was designed for, so I don't mind spending the extra $$$.

If you plan on racing your truck well then maybe I would consider it. Just make sure you change on a regular basis and use a decent oil filter. You can also get a free oil sample test kit from Blackstone Labs who will test your used oil for a small fee. You get a pretty good detailed report.

What's wrong with the mobil 1 filter?

 

Use the factory filter if you can. They are about the same if not cheaper.

Mobil 1 maybe a couple bucks more, but why not spend the extra coin to keep your engine in tip top performance? Remember the factory fills these things with the cheapest stuff they can find to reduce cost of manufacturing. Just because it didn't come from the factory with synthetic doesn't mean it's not built for it. That's like saying because your burger didn't come with ketchup on it's not supposed to have it on there.
