What about the Colorado makes it not that great of a truck that the Tacoma gets right? I think it's a great truck from what I can tell. I just liked the look of the Tacoma more. Plus, since most folks like to compare the newer trucks to their former models, I've gotta say: they really turned the Colorado around, IMO.

I for one would really like to see the Colorado do well. While I love my new Tacoma, I'd also love to see some strong competition in this space. A lack thereof means Toyota has very little motivation to improve upon, or reduce the prices of the Tacoma (as evidenced by an aging platform that's been getting more expensive). While cliche, it's still applicable: A rising tide lifts all boats.

There are already *so many* Tacomas on the road here in Utah. Would love to see some more variety out there.

The problem (for GM) is the Tacoma brand has two decades of reputation and sales dominance. You are going to have to put out an exceptional truck and build up a strong following to crack that nut. The Colorado/Canyon has an uphill battle and I don't see them getting there.

I feel like the wheel wells are freakin tiny on the GMs. Seems to me, fitting 33s would be a bitch!

Bought the 2015 just in case the gen 3 doesn't hold up to the hype. There are a ton of gen1 guys on here that are still not interested in a 2nd gen. I can't really think of many new and improved things that are really better. If the 3rd gen really is amazing... I'll grab one after my 10yrs, 175k

Wish Toyota would bring the diesel here in the Tacoma. I would bite! Or even VW bringing in the amarok with the diesel in it. It's been around in Europe for a while and seems to have proved itself.

I have friends in both Toyota and GM both fighting for me to get either a Tacoma or Colorado/canyon. The 40k+ price tag for a fully loaded canyon is what killed it for me. I'll go with a Tacoma that has had basically the same drivetrain that has been proven well into 300k miles without any issues... I can't say I've owned a GM truck yet that (with me driving) has had a transmission last past 130k miles. Reliability and proven performance of the trucks in the past is where I came to my conclusion of buying a Tacoma this month.

Disk brakes suck. J/k. But not really.

The next time I take a truck to an endurance racing event where the brakes fade from overheating I'll think about reasons why a truck might need disks.

Simple analogy. ......it is like a new franchise football team coming out. They might look nice at first but they are not going to do well in the field. On paper they look great, but always get beat by a better team that doesn't compromise. I made the same mistake buying a 2005 Dakota (new generation dakota) when it first came out. WORST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE! Now I'm back in a 2013 taco and loving life.

The last generation of Colorado/Canyon was lack luster at best. This is purely my mind set, but I think they would of been better off to bring back the S10/Sonoma Branding. I think the S10s got way more respect than the Colorado ever did! Till they killed the S10 with the round design....

Simple, Colorado uses car engine vs 2015 Tacoma uses truck engine. A lot of complains about Colorado is that neeeds to be rev up to get it going. Diesel my change that problem but until than Colorado is a $40k trucks with Malibu engine in it.
I take our 2 gen over Colorado (a wannabe truck) with car engine any day.

Chevy did nothing but improve the Colorado. The previous gen actually had a larger, 3.7L inline-5 cyl motor that made less power, less torque and got much worse mileage.
You have used this argument several times before. I don't agree, but I can certainly understand your preference for a higher displacement motor. I also think you're ignoring the fact that many manufacturers have been sharing powerplants across their product lines successfully for years. Ford is putting their 3.5 in a their *full-sized* f-150, which produces similar numbers to the Colorado. It's been used in several Lincolns, Mazdas, presently the Flex, Explorer, Taurus and Edge. The 5.2 liter in the Silverado is the same motor they put in some pretty fast, great cars (Camaro, SS, Corvette). Point being: you may not like the idea of a "car engine" in a truck, it's pretty common. I personally think its a credit to the engineers when they are able to design something so versatile.

I would also argue Toyota started build its reputation for awesome pickup trucks well before the Tacoma, and they did it using small displacement car engines. The beds on those things rusted out like hell, and they were pretty slow but they could go anywhere. People took note and decided that hauling sod wasn't the only reason a pickup was a neat thing to have. The Tacoma has been evolving from that same tiny underpowered motor ever since.

I love the idea of a car engine in a truck... as long as it produces better mpgs

if I was in the market for a new truck I would wait for the new Taco to come out and pick between that and the Colorado, and then proceed to buy the extended warranty lol

It looks okay but every one I've seen is in dire need of a leveling kit. The front droops ridiculously low compared to the back.

    Stay tuned.
I looked at used tacomas for months. Finally after every one being unsatisfactory or too close to the price of new. I realized I should just buy new. I was immediately drawn to the looks of the 16 but. I believe it will have a smaller engine from what I read? For that and not sure of what possible problems could arise, I figured the last year of a proven truck. As above mentioned. Was the way to go. Very minor things I don't like about the new truck, mostly cosmetic stuff.
