Once a boot is damaged even slightly it can take a while for it to blow apart and then for the joint to start making noise. You wouldn't even notice it until it's too late to save the joint in most cases. It sucks but asking Toyota to cover it under warranty would be like asking for rock chips to be covered. It's the name of the game with IFS.

I'm with the op. If that dealership wanted my business again, they would replace the boot and move on.

I am in NJ, which dealer do you use that is no questions asked? The dealers in my area are crooks and arent about the customer nor the relationship. Id be willing to travel for service like that.

Looks pretty clean, that birfield is still good my guess. No need to replace axle. OP just do a OEM boot kit.

You still gotta remove and clean then repack with grease. I wouldn't trust it.

Front bilstein 5100 with OME 884 w/trim pack, 17" fuel trophy wheels wrapped with 32" toyot open country m/t, bakflip fibermax tonneau cover, Avec 30" led light bar behind lower grille, marathon seat covers in max 5 camo pattern, trimmed front and rear mud flaps, more to come.
Even if he did put bigger tires or even leveled his truck out as long as his alignment can be put back to specs his cv joints wouldn't cause a problem. And there is a law out there that protects consumers with credible aftermarket parts that states that the manufacturer can not deny a warranty claim just like that. That have to have probable cause of the issue. I would fight OP with big Toyota on the issue and hopefully the dealership will get ripped for turning you down. And yes I do understand if you jack your truck up 9"s it's s losing battle but this doesn't seem like the case. I would keep pressing the issue because dealerships don't like doing warranty work because they don't get paid for it. And like others have said, find another dealership that will work with you. I hate stealerships!

This "law" which by the way is the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act. Which by the way doesn't apply or it has Nothing to do with this situation.

First: They have every right to turn him down. It appears that the damage was caused by a foreign object. That did not just come apart that way.

Second: Dealerships are in fact paid for warranty work by Toyota.

@SargeBSA do NOT let the dealer rape you lube-less. Go to another dealer or raise hell until they fix it. I am surprised I've not blown a CV yet with the stuff I've put my truck through. Keep hammering them!

    Yeah.
^This. Warranty is for manufacturing defects and workmanship, not damage. Warranty work does not pay quite as well as regular work, but any mechanic would rather have some warranty work to do than no work at all.

Dealerships are also allowed a certain amount of "goodwill" each month, to cover those edge cases. They will use it for good customers.

A small handful of select mods.
    2 things to point out:

If submitting as a warranty claim the dealership will REPLACE THE entire axle not just re-boot it.

Look up CVJ. OEM rebuilt CV axles. Keep OEM strength without the cost. Last time I looked they were around $150.

And like everyone else has said you hit something on the road. The way that boot is ripped leads to an external hit. I say find a better dealer to work with. But at this point good luck and I hope all goes well.

you couldnt be further from the truth. dealers do get paid for warranty work and quite well compared to other manufacturers. please stop spewing worthless information just to take the OP's side for the sake of posting.

sure..take it to another dealer who has absolutely nothing to do with the situation and ruin the poor guys day whos working the counter just b/c. i tell you...some of the information you guys post on here is absolutely comical. wat part of "physically damaged" dont you guys understand. the dealer has to submit those parts back to Toyota and when they get them, they inspect them. if they see the damage than they bounce the claim and the Dealer eats it. but who care about that when you can just stick to the dealer and get your part replaced instead of owning it yourself.

Sorry your dealers suck? Here in Houston there i maybe 12 dealers but I've only gone to one and they are outstanding at fixing shit they didn't have to. Waste time? I would rather burn a tank of gas rather than pay $729 (in the OP) for shit that should be warranted. Thanks for the 'helpful' advice.

dont really understand your post. so it should covered under warranty according to who? you? if you can find a dealer that'll cover physical damage, more power to you. coming on here telling the OP that "oh that should be covered" is pointless when theres clear evidence of damage.

heres another thing....dealerships dont rip people off....they give you a quote before doing the job...no ones holding a gun to your head saying you have to accept it. everyone knows they'll be higher and the parts cost more...it should come as no surprise to anyone.

Reading comprehension is hard now adays I suppose. Instead of bitching at other people's advice .. why not give some of your own?

And yeah, dealership do rip people off. Call 10 dealers asking for the same part and you will get 10 different prices.

Everybody wants something for free. The dealer has no obligation to fix that CV under warranty, it was obviously damaged by some kind of road debris. It's like you driving your truck into a brick wall and then arguing that they should fix it for free under warranty, it's not the dealer or toyota's fault. Bad luck that it happened and that sucks but by no means a warranty issue. Unfortunately shit happens.
