Stereo upgrade

Im looking to upgrade my stereo for my 2008 taco to a touch screen. Any suggestions on whats good and easy to do?

Second on Crutchfield. I didn't know jack when I decided to upgrade. Everything was explained and laid out real easy for the layman such as myself.

As a plus, they usually offer the dash kit and harness either discounted or free depending on the cost of the head unit you buy.

I mounted a single DIN, so I can't give you specific suggestions on the head unit, but take a look at their site and see what they can offer you.

Crutch-field is good to start looking but unless they are running an awesome sale on something specific you're better off buying from sonic electronics or Amazon. SE includes install equipment similar to how crutchfield does at a low cost for the head unit. Just find what you want and shop around for best price.

Imo I always like pioneer touch screens. Best price for the features included. I'm running one in my 4th gen 4Runner and love it

These are fun HU's because of Android, but when it boils down to Sound Quality they are at the low end of the spectrum.

 

Fair enough. For me the sound quality meets my needs but you are right, the sound quality is likely not very good compared to something with better parts.

 

Would you suggest replacing the speakers when I change the stereo?

 

I would suggest gutting the entire thing and upgrading everything. What is your budget?

 

You may want to consider an OEM 2013-2015 Toyota Tacoma touchscreen radio rather inexpensively, to keep the factory look.

No solid budget quite yet. All i want is a good stereo and speakers that is a good bang for your buck. I am not looking for top of the line quality

 

Replace the HU with something decent that has a decent built in amp. Most name brand HU's will suffice (Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood).

Get some speakers that are high sensitivity ratings and low RMS power.

 

What is the difference between component speakers and regular speakers?

 

I second this.

Components are regular door speakers plus tweeters. You'll probably want components in front, coaxials in back. Coaxials have a tweeter directly attached to the main speaker cone. They are good for the rear because there isn't anywhere for a tweeter to mount back there.

 

Just installed kicker components in my truck. When you separate the tweets from the woofers you hear much brighter highs in your music which makes everything sound louder and more clear imo. I'd recommend a 4 channel amp if your really want to make use of your aftermarket speakers as well. Most low to mid range headunits put out less than 20w x 4 which is not likely to power your speakers at their max potential or even close to it depending on what you get
