TRD supercharger availability update

Exactly. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the Mustang will be nice for at least a good year or so...but in 5 years I can buy a couple of them for nothing lol

 

I thought I would share, I just found a heck of a deal on the install. A master tech claimed it would take him 5 hours, with a shop rate of $85/hr comes out to $425. I'm going to see if I can get that in writing.

 

5 hours? Spec is for 10 hours. It might take him longer but they will only charge $425? Good deal.

Remember one thread here where they said xx hours, then called the next day and said xx hours. Get it in writing.

 

^Exactly, unless it's in writing and you sign saying you agree to the quote, they can literally turn around and charge you whatever they want. Once they start wrenching, without a signed quote, hourly just went up to $150

 

I'd be curious to hear of real life stories of applications where that extra 60-70 HP coming from the S/C came handy where you couldn't do with the base 236. Just curious.

 

Staying in gear on long grades at altitude. That was the first thing I noticed from the S/C.

TBH it's not the upgrade from 236 to ~300 HP that helps. It's the extra low and mid range torque.

Nope. It makes driving the truck better all around. Throttle response is better, merging and over taking on the freeway is easier, getting up to speed is just more fun. Im also less hesitant changing lanes when I have a smaller window with a car coming up on me.

 

I don't think you will. A extra 60hp isn't going to make or brake a situation. If you can't do it at 230 your not going to at 60hp extra. If it comes down to that you already exceeded the limits of your truck. like mentioned prior it will help towing and at altitude but is more or less just for fun

 

I thought so but then some people do sometimes have practical justifications for power mods, like snow driving, mud etc.

 

Depends on your definition of worthwhile. If you expect for S/C money to have the acceleration of a Mustang you will be disappointed. If you find the Tacoma bit underpowered and like the feel of V8 halftons the S/C is well worth the money.

Passing, driving with load, going up hill, merging, and anything else that requires a change in throttle feels 30% better with the S/C.

 

I can't wait for SC+all support mods... (intake/headers/ypipe/exhaust) should be fun

Shit! They r going fast! This morning when I checked there was at least 17 fit kits!! Now it's not showing any at any of those dealers.. It looks like it's getting to be slim pickings boys!!!

 

Today I dropped mine off at the dealer........I will in the near future be supercharged!!!

 

Well I have been through the mountains a few times with 236 hp and a trailer. Supercharged now and ill be heading through the same places with a trailer.

So you should know that octane rating does not correlate to "cleaner better quality gas". When gasoline is blended, high octane blend stocks like alkylate are used to increase the octane of the gasoline blend pool. If the gasoline is off spec, say with mercaptans, H2S, NACE, silver strip corrosion, etc etc, its because the components at some point have not been hydrotreated sufficiently or are a result of some other operational deficiency. At that point, additives are often used to passivate, act at branch chain terminators, or whatever in order to correct any deficient characteristics or properties of the gasoline.

But in itself, 91 octane does not imply " better and cleaner " gasoline than 87 octane

Could be a number of factors. Could be Shell's gasoline additive package is better than Chevron. Who knows? The lack of emperical data means its anyone's guess.

The best level of nitrogen enrichment in comparison with what? Lol. SRN?

You have to hand it to the gasoline producers and additive manufactures... Their marketing is second to none.

I'd be very surprised to find anyone still utilizing MMT in the US. Maybe in very occasional & limited circumstances, but even then I'd be surprised.
