Hi, I may be a new tacoma owner. Im a chevy person though, and looking to buy my first truck.
I don't plan on towing anything, just a little 4x4 and venturing the mountains. I was looking at the new Chevy Colorado, but lately I've been looking a lot into Tacomas or possibly a Tundra?
How reliable are they? Is gas mileage decent for someone who drives a lot but wants a truck?

The tundras are killer on the gas mileage.

    I suggest a Taco :)

Owned a Tundra (14 mpg) and a couple of Tacoma's (20 mpg), and both are superb in terms of reliability and fun.

Choose the size for you, and you will be very happy.

I like the smaller size, so Tacoma will be good. Is the horsepower good?
I was looking at 2010-2015 used, so those models are great?

Yeah lot of the bugs worked out after 2011. Some things I wish I had fixed on my 05. But yeah HP is good, I have 35 with 6'' lift and Im still happy with the power. When I was 3'' with 265s I had more then enough power. I was staying off the line with my brother lifted 2007 Tundra.

Yes, hp is 234'ish, and ample and never lacking.

You can gain hp through a variety of easy mod's or go nuts, but that is based on your budget. Go test drive one and get a feel for the power plant.

    I have had 05, 10, and now a 15.., all good experiences!

bed liner, that's it for now
You can also go first gen Tacoma! Still a lot of life left in the older tacomas too, and you don't have to drop as much cash... You'll need the extra $$$ for all the mods that you'll inevitably be doing!!!! Either way, go taco. A Double Cab Long Bed is the way I'd go if I were getting a new one tho. Good luck!

The power is a huge disadvantage in the Tacoma. We had an 08' Tundra with all sorts of problems (reason for getting rid of it). However, I miss the cab space and power. Just wait till you get stuck behind a semi on a long uphill grade. Now try to merge over with the cars fast approaching from behind and you'll see that the Tacoma is lacking. Plus with the 5.7 and 33x12.5 Toyo M/T we were averaging 16.5 mpg.
