Your truck your money how many millions of Dana rears, you know the ones that have no drain plug are out there with oil that has never been changed. Ever stopped to think just what that would cost you in a hundred thousand miles of driving?

I'm fine without the short shifter and I don't think that it shifts too slow.. Just gotta find the sweet spots...

Would you also change the rear diff fluid on an auto at 5k?

If you really want to be over reactive follow Toyota's towing/severe service even if you don't meet the requirements. These guys build the trucks and have to fix them if they break under warranty. Tacoma's are not known for having rear end issues the same basic diff has been used for decades.

oh yeah... mine is an auto and i changed it at 5k. well worth the 30 bucks for synthetic fluid (also picked up ~ .75mpg by doing so) Now ill go at recommended intervals for the rear diff.

.75 MPG really? Did you wait till the pump clicked off or did you fill it to the neck? After the pump clicks off I can usually put up to 2 more gallons in.

Lol yeah not trying to be a dick but there are way too many variables in mpgs to claim a .75 mpg difference

Yeah if I turn off the AC I gain a mile per gallon or if I get stuck in traffic, drive in the city, take a ride in the mountains. Many years ago when vehicles still had carbs dealerships had a device that was connected to the fuel system it had a tank that held exactly 1/10 of a gallon. The vehicle was driven on that 1/10 until it stopped the valve was turned on to allow the gas to be drawn from the fuel tank again to drive back to the shop. There were a lot of surprised people by the results.

Well guys, the day finally came! Last night I picked up the taco after work and after dealing with some bs at the dealer for roughly 3hrs (if you live on long island NEVER go through Atlantic Toyota!! They are the epitome of the typical "car salesman" and there communication or lack there of was more than infuriating.) with that being said the deal is done and I have the truck! First impressions of the truck as I've only driven it about 30miles to work (only has 40 miles on it) is that it's pretty smooth! That may come from the fact that I came from a 1995 dodge Dakota but I'm very pleased with the ride, the truck is not fast by any means but I knew it wouldn't be bc.. It's a truck lol but I dont feel like it's a pig either providing I keep it in the rev range. My only concern so far is that it's pretty rough engaging reverse. By rough I mean takes a lot of effort to engage the shifter into reverse and when it does it's pretty notchy. I'm pretty sure I remember reading that it takes some time to break in and smooth out but has anyone else experienced this? My other concern so far although I know I've hardly had a chance to drive her and that it's a pretty minor issue but when I plug my iPod into the usb the song that comes up on the display isn't always the song that is playing.. I'd say about 75% of the time it's right but a few times it was wrong so far. I'm taking her on a camping trip this weekend about 3hrs away so I'll really get a better feel for the truck than and report back. As always any feedback is appreciated!
