I am just trying to figure out what it is that you are wanting to know PeeRunner? You keep asking about the truck, are you wanting to buy it, if not why do you ask me if I'm still selling it?

I think it was just a misunderstanding on both of your parts. I think he was curious why you are getting a new bumper if you just listed the truck for sale which, honestly I am curious about too, not about being interested in buying it. Then, I think it was a misunderstanding on tone through text on peerunners part when you asked why he wanted to know.

    There... All fixed

We do that run at least once a year (except Poughkeepsie Gulch... I hate that run). I've been on every trail in the Alpine loop too many times to count. We've been going out there for the last 15 years. A little over 5.5 years and I'll be out there permanently. Came on the job early so I'll retire right before I hit 50.

Poughkeepsie gulch was partially closed due to snow. I tried "The Wall" a few times but my lack of a front locker left me at the bottom. Might have tried a couple different lines or winched up but since the trail was blocked I turned around and headed down and over to California Pass then to Huricane pass. Ate in Silverton at Handlebar's restaurant and saloon.

My first of many lame attempts at "The Wall". My girlfriend only videoed the first two tries. (I shall return and conquer)

Forgive my ignorance, but I'm new to the recreational off-road world. Regarding your comment, could you please shed more light as to why aluminum is not suitable for off-roading? Is is because steel is less likely to break and is repairable? Or is there some other reason I haven't considered? When it comes time to finally purchase a bumper this summer I will be ordering the Peifreybilt and was considering the aluminum option over steel for the weight savings. Your time and attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I went down the wall once (never tried going up). After that I was done. It's not the wall that bothers me so much it's the damn rock garden afterwards. It seems like it never ends. California Pass is beautiful then down into Silverton. I always love Animas Forks and poking around the old mining stuff that's there. There are so many side trails off of the Alpine Loop and I think I've hit most every single one. We used to go twice a year but since my daughter was born we only go once now.

There isn't any difference. The only issue that could arise is aluminum is a little more prone to "gouging" if you grind up over a rock. I would be in some deep shit if I did that the way this bumper is made. The weight savings is what I was going for. The strength is no different. Let's put it this way... I've done the entire alpine loop with a stock "plastic" bumper with no issues. You won't have any with aluminum if that's the route you decide to take.

I'm sorry man but Aluminess is one ugly bumper IMO. I'm sure it's great but damn it's ugly.

just gonna throw this out there, that even if u save half the weight on a 150lb bumper (which i would imagine would be about as heavy as they come) ur not even gaining the weigh of a passenger, and mileage should be negligable. the only benifit would be less front end sag but that could be pretty easily fixed. im not trying to talk you out of AL if thats what u really want just trying to save you some money if you hadn't weighed all the options, no pun intended.

Yup. Nothing wrong with steel. Got a Pelfreybilt steel bumper sitting on the station floor right now waiting to be picked up today. The difference in weight was 110 lbs for the steel and 50 lbs for the aluminum. I "personally" didn't want that much weight on the front of the truck and since I don't plan on adding a winch it wasn't a big deal. I've got the stock TRD suspension on it right now but will be adding Icons (which would have made up the difference for any sag). That said... I still like the option of the aluminum but that is a "personal" choice.
