I went to type that I thought that was crazy but it I hit Post prematurely on my phone and then got bombed with texts.

And yeah, 4 hours to go to REI is crazy. I've done the same thing a few times, handle an item locally and then buy online. Try to do it only on occasion but when it's a difference of 20-30%, money is money.

    Correct

I'll buy some stuff in store, but when I'm saving $20 or more...i cannot justify the difference

    Example: Kelty Noah's Tarp 12

In store local $60 + tax

    Amazon $52.46

    I paid $44 shipped

Busy busy, haven't lit the pipe in a couple of months unfortunately...been too tied up with everything else

Work is work, but the off duty job is super busy, been putting time/money into building a backpack that I can leave packed for hurricane season should I need to live out of it and whatnot...hence my interest in this thread

Do they make it into your area? Don't recall my buddy saying that he'd been through any. I know in Charlotte they were pretty rare (IIRC). Hellacious wind but they died out that far inland.

Last major one that had anything more than some rain and wind was in 89 but it was a doozy

We lived out of a pop up camper for 2 weeks because luckily my parents stay prepared

Nice! Those are really great values IMO. Talked to many who swear by them.

It seems really well built, and while I could use a few more pockets built in for my own personal organizational issues...it'll do what I need it to do

I want to be able to carry enough gear and clothes to survive for 3-4 days in the woods or just in an apartment with no power/water/gas

So far, I've fit everything I can think of to need and have plenty of room to spare. 3-4 days worth of underwear and socks, a spare pair of pants/belt, 2 shirts, jacket, hammock, thermarest, stove, water purifier, mess kit, and a handful of small odds/ends plus 2 guns

What are you using for food/fire/water purification?

I have 3 days worth of MREs, have both a jet lighter and dryer lint and a ferro rod, and an ancient (but still functional) Pur Hiker filtration system

I assume you're using a stainless steel canteen for both water carrying and also as a vessel to boil water?

I'm actually not, I have a stainless mug, but have 3 nalgene bottles that I rotate. 2 stay in the bag with water, and 1 goes with me to work. I change them out each day so the water doesn't sit in the but maybe 2-3 days at a time. I'm using them because it's what I had available

I'd consider adding one if you found one you like. The dual uses offered are pretty handy.

true, I do prefer having things that can do double duty...but I also like being cheap...I'd venture to guess at least 50% of my pack is pre-loved gear that I either had for another purpose, or dad gave me leftover from our boy scout days
