Okay so I posted a thread on here not long ago about leveling my Tacoma. My truck has 100k miles on it and I'm looking to keep a slight rake. I don't won't it nose high considering my spacer lift resulted in that . I ordered 5100 bilsteins all around and I'm trying to decide whether or not to set the shocks at .85 or factory height. Who on here (TRD Offroad package ONLY) has performed the .85 setup with stock coils. What's the ride quality like on pavement and highway? My truck is a pavement princess and at most sees gravel/dirt on occasion. Any information will be appreciated!

At .85 it was slightly stiffer than stock shocks were with noticeably less nose dive under breaking and handled better in turns with less body roll.
    Ride quality was great.

That's seems to be what I'm going for. Would you recommend trying that option out before setting it on factory height?

Your measurements seem fine with .85.

I really was an uncommon/rare case where I got more than the estimated lift, I just wanted to be clear that it's an estimate and not guaranteed. I think you'll be okay.

Alright, I appreciate your help cause I know I'm being overly picky about this. I guess my better question would be: Was sacrificing the ride quality of the factory setting for .85 of lift worth it? I know it depends on the individual, but is the ride stiffness really that much different?

Not in my experience. It is different. But it isn't necessarily a sacrifice in quality. I thought it was an improvement. 1.75 is where it got a little stiff but it still isn't bumpy. My fiancé is 8 1/2 months pregnant and has never complained about bumps or stiffness and she was a frequent passenger in my slammed precious car, which was horribly bumpy and stiff.

Okay I think the .85 option is going to best suite my needs. I guess just about anything will be better than that spacer .

So you have the progressive coils?

Should be an improvement over that 2.5, for sure.

If your coils are a little hagged out, they pop up here for sale fairly frequently for short money. Shipping can be a bitch since they're heavy, but UPS ground is usually $15-25 so not all that bad in the grand scheme.

Okay I'll look into it. I'll have the shocks installed first and see how the ride is before purchasing coils. May end up buying some OME that provide around an inch of lift and dropping the shock down to 0. If the ride isn't too stiff with the progressives, then I'll let it be.

I think all the OEM coils are progressive.

If I did purchase some on here, I should look for linear correct?

Oh okay, I thought the SR5 models and the Sport editions had linear coils opposed to the offroad having progressive.

I thought the Sport was linear and SR5 and Off-road progressive but was corrected. Lol

I bought the OME 883 coils mounted on 5100's and love the look and the ride!

How much lift did those bring you?

What would happen if I switched out my progressive coils to the linear ones found on the Sport models. Would I notice any difference? Would it be okay to do that? Oh and my truck is an SR5 TRD offroad package, so do I have progressive or linear springs?
